Remarks
Holding classes on a saturday made no sense and making 75% attendance mandatory too made no sense. Students should be given the freedom to choose if they want to come or not. We are not school students anymore.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was very old and unchanged. We had an yearly exam system, 2-4 papers, each out of 100. There were no chances of re-tests. The syllabus was huge and old, not upto the modern times. This was the characteristics of Calcutta University.
Placement Experience
My course had no job placements or job opportunities. Neither was there any scope for internships. All there was was exams, and all we had to do was score well. Like I said, the system of Calcutta University is very backdated.
College Events
I never participated in anything so I cannot answer it properly. Only one annual event took place every year, which is the college fest Caledonia. It took place for over 5 days where students from other colleges came to participate.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As it is a government college, the fees were really cheap for my course. Maybe 3-4k in Indian rupee was the yearly fee, which is absolutely negligible compared to private colleges where fees were around 60k.
Fees and Financial Aid
I never thought of scholarships as the fees were negligible to begin with and my parents earned well enough to fund my education. I don’t know if there were scholarships available as the college authorities never made an effort to inform us about it.
Campus Life
There was a common room which hosted a table tennis board and carrom boards. That was all the sports i had in 3 years. We had a field somewhere where the annual sports took place but I never participated in it.
Alumni/Alumna
I had no idea how to connect with the alumni network. And i never really interacted with the senior students as i never really needed their help. As much as i have seen, even the college union was weak.
Admission
After the ISC results were out, I applied to this college. My name was there on the 1st merit list. I went for the counselling where my details were verified and then got selected. Two more merit lists were out after which the seats got filled.
Faculty
The college faculty was more or less good. But they did not put much effort into teaching the classes. They took private tuitions where they taught better. Students without tuitions mostly faltered or failed.
