What Students Say
Likes
- Presence of Actively working Activity Clubs.
- No entry without id cards ensure that random people can't enter the college campus. This is good for security purposes.
- The old buildings are still present which depicts the heritage of North Kolkata. New buildings with modern infrastructure are also built.
Dislikes
- The college's Annual Fest CALEDONIA isn't taking place for the last few years.
- While the semester exams of other colleges are over, our exams are never being held on time. The University is the reason for this not the college.
- Fees are slightly higher compared to other Colleges under the same University.
Course Curriculum Overview
I studied Humanities in Class 11 & 12. In my 12th Boards I got 97% in best 5 subjects. In college I have opted for Bachelor of Honours in English. This Degree mainly focuses on English Literature and it's History. In the First Semester our syllabus focuses on Poetry. This subject is a good choice for those having passion for Literature and Book reading.
Internships Opportunities
I am still in Sem 1 of 1st Year so I haven't got internship opportunities as of now. But I have heard during the Orientation Programme that internship opportunities are given as a part of the course itself. Will get to know more about this in future.
Fees and Financial Aid
So I completed my Class 12th Boards in 2024 and after that I applied for various colleges, Scottish Church College was one of them. It is one of the oldest colleges not only in West Bengal but also India. Many eminent personalities have studied here. 1st Semester Fees (including admission fees) is Rs 14691. The college is situated in North Kolkata (near Hedua Park). The campus is not very big but it still okay. You can't enter without id cards. It's a pretty strict College. Till now I haven't faced any ragging. Some seniors are really nice (not every senior though). On the day of orientation we were told about various Scholarships, Students Credit Card Scheme etc. Those who need that, can definitely apply. There are many Activity Clubs which you might join if you are interested in co-curriculum activities like Drama Club, Literary Club, Photography Club, Eastern Music Club, Western Music Club, Eastern Dance Club, Western Dance Club, Painting Club etc. There's a NSS Unit too. For Christian Students Special scripture classes are held. But unfortunately no fests have taken place here after 2019. I don't know whether I will get to witness any Fest during my college life. Nevertheless I have got the opportunity to participate in Inter college competitions (in fests of other colleges) through auditions held by the clubs. I can assure one thing that most clubs give newcomers the opportunity if they are capable of representing the College. Honestly speaking my social life in this college is quite good presently. Hope my college life keeps going like this for the remaining 3.5 years.
Campus Life
Social life isn't bad over here. If you find your group of people then definitely you can have a good college life ahead. Got to meet some really creative and talented people through this college. I mentioned about various clubs already. Regarding infrastructure, there's a Library, separate common rooms for Girls and Boys, Assembly Hall, Labs, Water Cooler, Lifts (only for professors though), a playground (it's not situated in the main campus though) etc.
Admission
Apart from this college I also applied for other Colleges through the WBCAP (West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal). I gave a few entrance exams. I got chance in some other colleges too but ended up staying here after my admission.
Faculty
Our Department has 5 professors at present and total number of students are 52. The seat capacity initially was 55 though. The New CCF Pattern has been introduced which has increased the years of Honours from 3 years to 4 years. We are the second batch of CCF. The semester exams are being delayed in the 1st Semester but from our next semesters we will get less time comparatively.
Night Life
I stay in a hostel near the college but it's not the College Hostel. I applied for the College's Hostel but didn't get selected as a boarder over there (one's selection depends on factors like distance from home). Nevertheless as I stay nearby I have explored various restaurants, street foods. Tried College Canteen's food too. Hatibagan Market is also near so did shopping there. Swami Vivekananda's Ancestral Home is also located close to the college.
