Remarks
Overall REVA University is really a great place to study, it provides with all the necessary study materials, the labs with their complete apparatus and has good faculty members who are willing to help students. Not only this, major events like DevFest, Developer Weekend and TEDxREVAUniversity have taken place this very year, so the events are also really great. Hostel has mixed reception, the infrastructure is great but the timings need to improve. Availing scholarship is easy as their are many categories and types of scholarship available. The extra curricular activities are great and sports also are really great in REVA University. The Alumni Network is really strong and the Seniors are always willing to help.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our course curriculum is really good and more advanced than most of the colleges under VTU, the exam structure can basically divided in two parts, 1st one is internals. There are three internal exams for each subject which make upto 40% of our overall subject grade. Out of the three internals, only two best are considered for the 40%. Then at end of semester we have our 2nd part Semester End Examination. Semester End Examination carries 60% of the subject grade and a student needs to score atleast 15% to be called pass or fail. Overall in 100%, marks required to pass each subject is 25%.
Placement Experience
Placements and job opportunities has increased slightly over the last couple of years, last year we actually had 100% placement for eligible students in Computer Science and Engineering Department. Major Companies such as Amazon, HP and Dell came for requirements and were successful in their respective quests. Also getting internship in our college is relatively easy as we have a whole branch called REVA Nest which focuses on providing internship(s) to students who approach them. I currently am doing an Internship In REVA Academy of Corporate Excellence for the past few months and the experience i am getting is totally invaluable. I am also receiving a stipend of Rs. 1000 per day and i have to go for the internship only on Saturdays.
College Events
There are many major and minor events happening in REVA University. Two of the biggest events in India DevFest 2019 (powered by google developers) and Developer Weekend (a national level tech conference) both took place in REVA University on September 23rd and 29th respectively. Both the events were really awesome. Also in April we had our very first TEDxREVAUniversity which is a global event and was really great to experience. Not only these major events but regular events also take place from every branch in REVA University. For example we have C&IT's flagship event called Saviskara, then we Mechanical's flagship event called MARS. And we have REVA University's own flagship event called REVA Expo, which is meant for students of all the branches to come and showcase their skills and projects they have made over the course of the whole year
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure differs branch by branch in REVA University. But since I am a student in CSE Department I can explain the fee structure for CSE Department. So it is as follows, we have three different categories of admission and the fee details depend on the different categories which are: 1. KCET: < Rs.1,00,000 per annum 2. COMEDK: < Rs. 2,50,000 per annum 3. Managment: > Rs. 3,50,000 per annum
Fees and Financial Aid
REVA University provides many scholarships based on the merit, sports quota, defense quota, P.H. quota, or other applicable categories. These scholarships are awarded based on eligibility criteria set up by the University. Link to scholarship details can be seen here: https://reva.edu.in/reva-university-scholarships
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are good overall in REVA University, but i would take some time to talk about them in deplth. Labs: Labs are well maintained, they have all the required apparatus or tools required to do the experiments. All the programming labs have computers which run on latest version of the operating system which is being used. For example if it's Windows, then Systems run on Windows 10, or if it's Ubuntu, then it's Ubuntu 18 LTS. Sports: Sports has kind of mixed reception here. All kinds of sports are available to be played in REVA University ranging from indoor sports like Table Tennis, Carom to outdoor sports like Cricket, Basketball and Soccer. The only negative point is that most of the coaches and players have preference towards certain students, so during team selections those certain students are given more oppurtunities(in soccer) in Cricket and Basketball, the selections are really genuine and have no Bias, and that's the reason that Cricket and Basketball teams perform better than Soccer teams in competitions they enter. Indoor sports have really transparent selections and like cricket and basketball, you'll only get selected if you're actually good
Hostel Facilities
I was in hostel for two years, so I can actually say that the Infrastructure they provide is really great the rooms are spacious enough for even four sharing. All the rooms have attached bathroom and toilet. The floors have CCTV cameras. And if there are any complaints we have to write it in complaint register and it gets solved at most earliest. But i would also like to state that the Food provided in hostel mess is not good at all. It is Unhygienic and does not tastes good at all. In two years I spent in hostel, I ate outside at least 40% of the times. Also the timings are not so great. They are good but are not student friendly. For example if we have to give Laundry we have to give it on a allotted day(which is good) but we have to do it between 7:45 AM to 8:15 AM. And classes start at 8:30, so not feasible. Same thing with breakfast. Breakfast starts at 7:30 AM and ends at 7:55 AM, the problem being hot water for bath also comes for the same duration only. So again, not feasible at all. Basically these timings mean is that all the 4 People living in the room have to take bath, give dirty clothes for laundry and Take their breakfast all within half and hour. So obviously only about 10%~15% students can actually do all the work, because, Feasibility.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni and Seniors are really helpful in REVA University, there's actually an annual Alumni Meet in REVA University, which focuses on bringing the Alumni students back together and remember all the fun moments they had. The Alumni actually donated an Ambulance to REVA University's Medical Center so that in a case of emergency students from REVA Medical Center can be transported to nearest hospital. The seniors also are really helpful to the juniors and provide with any kind of help to the juniors if possible, they help us in selection of subjects, in making assignments, in projects and also in preparation of exams. So overall the alumni and seniors are actually of good nature and helpful.
Admission
I had to give COMEDK entrance test through which i secured rank which was eligible for the college. After selection of college, we had to do the formalities in college like submitting our certificates and marks card and filling up registration forms. Overall, the admission process was really easy and smooth
Faculty
Faculty in the college are mostly good and have good knowledge about the subject they are teaching, they also are very helpful and clear any doubt which comes, in the class or after the class also. Most of the faculty also help in mentoring the students and also are willing to help even if they are not our subject teachers. Faculty in our college actually help in management of events and themselves take part in it and always try to raise the bar up.
