IIT Hyderabad's campus is still being built. It's a large campus, but there is ongoing construction work. The hostels are in good shape since they're new. The food in the mess is also decent. The administration building houses both lecture halls and offices. Right now, some students are staying in a temporary hostel at the ordnance factory campus, with bus services provided by IITH. Once finished, this campus is expected to be one of the top IIT campuses.
IIT Hyderabad is growing rapidly and has a prime location in one of India's major industrial hubs, which is a big plus. The institute offers a lot of flexibility in its curriculum. They have innovative ideas like Fractal Academics (short-term courses), fractional credit courses on topics like Photojournalism and Film Making taught by industry pros, and interdisciplinary branches like Engineering Science. You can even minor in entrepreneurship. Being in a big city with many research centers, labs, and multinational companies gives it an edge over other IITs and NITs in smaller towns. It’s definitely one of the top choices among the newer IITs and holds its own against some of the older ones like IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee. In 2016, it was ranked as the seventh best engineering institution in India by the MHRD, even ahead of IIT Guwahati. The student-to-faculty ratio is great, and the faculty members are very supportive of research ideas. Student interest is increasing, especially in CSE and EE, which have closing ranks similar to older IITs.
Here's some info about IITH as of January 2017: It has 934 publications, 15 patents, and over 238 sponsored and consultancy projects. Almost 80% of the faculty have sponsored projects. There is strong industry collaboration, including four PM fellowships. The institute has around ?137 Crores in sponsored research funding and about ?15 Crores in industrial research and consultancy. There are 105 labs for various purposes and active collaboration with Japan in research and infrastructure. IITH has its own technology incubator, and four companies have already been launched. There are 14 departments covering engineering, science, and humanities, with over 1850 students and 171 full-time faculty members.
However, there are some downsides.
