Should I go for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

C
ChaoticGlitch Posted On : April 21st, 2026

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering has a higher fee structure, around 20 lakhs, but offers a strong curriculum in AI/ML and excellent placement opportunities with big tech companies like Amazon and Google. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering provides a more affordable experience with abundant internship opportunities and a solid focus on real-world applications. While both colleges have their strengths, IIT Kharagpur seems to offer better value for money with lower fees and a well-rounded campus life. If you're looking for a more economical route with good prospects, go for IIT Kharagpur; if you’re set on tech and can manage the higher investment, IIT Delhi might be worth it for the brand and placement edge.

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Chemical Engineering?

E
EtherealTwilight Posted On : April 21st, 2026

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is a fantastic choice if you're looking for high placement rates, especially with tech giants like Google and Samsung often recruiting here. The fees are indeed high, but the ROI is solid given the 88% placement rate, which suggests a strong demand for graduates. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a slightly lower student-faculty ratio, which could mean better personal attention, but the placement details are less clear. While both colleges provide scholarships, IIT Delhi's financial burden is significant. If you prioritize immediate job prospects and are ready for the fees, go for IIT Delhi; if you're keen on a more personalized academic experience and can manage with slightly less clarity on placements, IIT Kharagpur might be the smarter financial choice.

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering Power and Automation and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering?

L
LostLion Posted On : April 21st, 2026

There is a difference, but it's negligible. This isn't because Power and Automation students aren't good enough. The difference arises mainly because many companies are either unaware of the two EE branches or perceive one as more specialized. As a result, some companies don’t even recruit for Power and Automation, even though they do for Engineering Physics. The situation has improved significantly in recent years, but a gap still exists.

There are only 3–4 core courses that differ between EE1 and EE3 (P&A), and they are essentially the same branch. The different courses include:

  • Communication Engineering (core for EE1)
  • Engineering Electromagnetics (core for EE1)
  • Embedded Systems (core for EE3)
  • Power Engineering-2 (core for EE3)

Should I go for B.Tech Electrical Engineering Power and Automation in IIT Delhi or B.Tech + M.Tech Mechanical Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation stands out with its strong placement statistics, where students can secure packages up to 4 crore, and a vibrant campus life filled with fests like Rendezvous. The curriculum bridges core engineering and coding, which is great for diverse job opportunities. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech + M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a solid blend of foundational and advanced studies, and its higher average package of 20-25 lakhs and 80% placement rate is impressive too. However, the campus life at Kharagpur may not be as lively as Delhi's. Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for its robust placement opportunities and dynamic campus experience, but if you prefer a comprehensive mechanical engineering path with a double degree, then IIT Kharagpur is definitely a strong choice.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a strong edge in placements and internships, especially in tech and finance, with top firms like Jane Street offering staggering packages that can reach up to 4 crores. The curriculum is rigorous, which prepares you well for the high-paying quant and tech roles. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering also has good placement records but leans more towards electronics with slightly less emphasis on financial roles. If you're passionate about mathematics and want to dive into high-stakes finance or tech, IIT Delhi is the better choice. However, if you're more inclined towards electronics and communication, IIT Kharagpur is still a solid option but may not match the financial prospects of IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering offers a strong placement record with many top companies visiting, and the highest package can go up to 4 Cr, which is impressive. The internship stipends are also quite lucrative, ranging from 50K to 2L per month. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering has a decent placement scene, with an average package around 16 LPA and options for core and non-core jobs, but it lacks the same level of high-profile offers as IIT Delhi. If you're aiming for top-tier placements and want a diverse range of opportunities, IIT Delhi would be the better choice. However, if you prefer a more balanced workload with the ability to explore various career paths, IIT Kharagpur might suit you better.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a clear edge in placements and internships compared to IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Mining Engineering + M.Tech in Safety Engineering. At IIT Delhi, major firms like Google, Microsoft, and even quant-focused companies like Jane Street actively recruit, with impressive packages reaching up to 4 crores. The variety of companies visiting for internships also means broader opportunities for students. IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Engineering Physics offers a well-structured curriculum that aligns with industry needs and a vibrant campus life with numerous clubs and societies, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy research and collaboration. The faculty is highly qualified, with a good student-to-faculty ratio, ensuring personalized attention. If you prefer a more specialized field without as much emphasis on research, IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit.
