XLRI Delhi to Establish New Automobile Design School, Launches Master’s in Automobile Design & Management

XLRI, Delhi-NCR will launch the Indian School for Design of Automobiles (INDEA) and a new one-year PG Course by the end of 2025. The course will involve people from the automotive industry, including XLRI alum and course collaborator Avik Chattopadhy

New Delhi: The Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Delhi-NCR has announced its intention to open the country’s first automobile design finishing school, the Indian School for Design of Automobiles (INDEA). XLRI is planning to start a Master's course in Automobile Design and Management once INDEA is established by the end of 2025. 

According to XLRI officials, the Master’s course in Automobile Design and Management will be a one-year PG course for 20-25 students per year. The curriculum details are yet to be finalized. It will likely include masterclasses from industry professionals, workshops for hands-on learning, project reviews, an international network for students and industry professionals, and project opportunities outside India.

The Master’s program has also received collaboration from XLRI alum Avik Chattopadhyay, who is involved in the automotive industry. The program will also receive guidance and inputs from dignitaries such as Gautam Sen, automotive journalist; ex-Supreme Court Justice Indira Banerjee; and IV Rao, previous Director of Engineering at Maruti Suzuki.

At an event held to announce the establishment of INDEA and the new PG Course in Automobile Design and Management, Avik Chattopadhyay said, “The Indian automobile industry is one of the strongest pillars of the Indian economy. It is poised for its next phase of growth post-pandemic with factors like clean energy, evolving consumer behavior, and greater focus on circular- sustainability.”

The Director of XLRI Delhi-NCR Campus, KS Casimir, also graced the occasion, Addressing the audience, he talked about XLRI’s endeavor to help make India into a design hub. “Our effort with ‘Indian School for Design of Automobiles’ is to bridge the gap for skilled designers who also understand the nuances of management and customer preferences, creating well-rounded professionals for the Indian Automotive industry,” he said. 

He also talked about making the course more intersectional shortly. “Currently, the course will be eligible for engineering graduates only but we will consider taking students in the automobile design and management courses from humanities as well in the future,” he said.
