Uttarakhand Open University (UOU), Nainital has started the PhD Admission 2026 process for eligible candidates across multiple disciplines. As per the official notice, the university is offering 41 vacant seats and the application process is being conducted in online mode.

Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/CSIR-NET or equivalent national eligibility tests can apply. The online registration will remain open till the second week of March 2026.

How Many Seats Are Available in UOU PhD 2026?

As per the official brochure, the UOU has announced a total of 41 PhD seats across different subjects. Admission will be strictly based on NET score and interview performance.

What is The Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admission?

UOU is following the latest UGC PhD Regulations 2022. Candidates must have qualified any of the following national level tests:

  • UGC-NET (with JRF or without JRF)
  • CSIR-NET
  • GATE / CEED / ICAR-NET / ICMR-NET

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their NET percentile score.

  • JRF candidates will be selected through interview only.
  • Other candidates will be evaluated with 70% weightage to NET score and 30% to interview.
  • Minimum 35% marks in an interview (11 out of 30) is mandatory.

As per the official notification, the counselling fee is ₹1,000. After successful document verification and counselling, candidates must complete the registration process and submit the required programme fees to confirm their admission.

The minimum duration of the Regular PhD programme is 3 years, while for Part-Time PhD it is 4 years.

The maximum duration is 6 years, which may be extended as per university rules. Women candidates and persons with benchmark disabilities are eligible for additional relaxation in duration according to university norms.

After the interview process, the university will publish a final merit list. Selected candidates must complete document verification and counselling within the given timeline. Admission will be confirmed only after fee payment and formal registration.

All admitted scholars are required to complete the mandatory course work of at least 12 credits in the initial phase of the programme.
