- Certificate of Birth or S.S.L.C. Certificate
- Certificate for 10th grade, HSC, UG, PG, and M.Phil. Mark Convocation Statements and Certificates
- The University of Madras's approval of instructors' qualifications and appointments
- records of the Departmental Selection Committee's recommendation that the applicant pursue a Ph.D.
- The head of the organization where the candidate works must provide an original Service Certificate and No Objection Certificate with the date of employment. (For candidates working part-time)
- a copy of the appointing authority's appointment order. (For candidates working part-time)

University of Madras PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria
Candidate must qualify the below-mentioned eligibility criteria to get admission to the University of Madras PhD program
- Master's degree in engineering, technology, architecture, medicine, fine arts, commerce, education, management science, law, Indian medicine, veterinary science, M.Pharm., and agriculture, including a doctor of medicine (M.D. or M.R.C.P.) or master of surgery (M.S. or F.R.C.S./M.R.C.S.) from any accredited university.
- M.B.B.S. degree with two years of special training or senior house surgeon experience, or an equivalent degree approved by the Indian Medical Council or another appropriate body.
- A bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine, ayurveda, siddha, homeopathy, unani medicine, etc., combined with two years of senior house surgeons' training or the equivalent of two years of specialized training in allied fields.
- Credentials from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, and Institute of Company Secretaries of India, including ACA, FCA, AICWAI, and ACSI, as long as the applicants have obtained:
- One of the aforementioned credentials at least two years after graduating with a bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- An overall score of at least 55% on the qualifying degree exam.
- If they meet the eligibility requirements listed above, research fellows, research assistants, technical assistants, project fellows, project assistants, and training officers working in extension departments that the university has approved and appointed to research projects funded by reputable organizations or the government may also enroll full-time in the same department to pursue a Ph.D.
Admission to the university's research programs is determined by separate entrance exams. The test is objective in nature and includes questions about research skills and the topic a candidate has applied to. The test takes two hours to complete. The entrance exam and qualifying exam scores are used to create the merit list; each is given a 50:50 weighting.
