New Delhi: With the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur preparing to open its first satellite branch in Pune, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has expressed interest in offering 60 acres of municipal land near Moshi.

After receiving notification of the availability of land, the IIM team is scheduled to visit the city on October 12, 2023 to assess the feasibility of the area for the establishment of its wing in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

"We have informed them that a plot of land is available in Pimpri-Chinchwad and that they can assess its feasibility themselves," Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam shared. Previously, the municipal corporation had written to the Pune collector, requesting that the matter be taken up with IIM officials.

"We had heard that IIM was looking for a plot of land on which to establish a branch. As a result, we wrote to the Pune district collector, proposing a 60-acre government land within the PCMC jurisdiction at Moshi," Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh shared, adding that the land is currently earmarked for recreational purposes.

"Its reservation can be modified in order to build the IIM. If an institute of the calibre of IIM arrives in Pimpri-Chinchwad, we can always start the process of modifying the reservation's purpose. If IIM comes to town, it will have a significant influence," he remarked.

According to Municipal Commissioner Singh, the PCMC did not send a proposal in this regard, but rather a letter. "We have stated that if IIM is established in Pimpri-Chinchwad, we can change the purpose of the land with the Maharashtra government's permission. We have been informed about its reservation and the amount of land available," Singh added.

Singh explained the relevance of establishing IIM in Moshi by stating that the site is right on the Pune-Nashik Highway and has better connections than other parts of the city. "In addition, it is connected to the Pune airport, and Mumbai is not far away. It also has good access to the Outer Ring Road. That is why we are urging Moshi to attend IIM. PCMC will be delighted if an IIM branch opens in the industrial city, as this will help to change the educational landscape," he stated.
