New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the Supreme Court has announced that candidates who are offered All India Quota (AIQ) seats for PG medical courses during NEET PG Counselling 2023 are not permitted to vacant the seats after the second round of AIQ counselling.
Speaking on this order, the court stated, "In the order of this Court in Dar-Us-Slam Educational Trust v Medical Council of India, it was expressly stipulated that after the second round of counselling for All India Quota seats, students who take admission in All India Quota seats should not be allowed/permitted to vacate the seats”.
The court further added that after the NEET PG Counselling 2023 round 2, conducted for admission to All India Quota seats, applicants will have to accept their seats. This decision will ensure that no seats are reverted back to state quota and AIQ seats are filled from the All India Merit list only.
"The students who take admission and secure admission in Deemed Universities pursuant to the second round of counselling conducted by the DGHS shall not be eligible to participate in any other counselling," added the court.
This order was given after hearing a plea submitted by NEET students, who resigned from their PG medical seats allotted to them under NRI quota. The plea was heard by the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra.
