Dr. C. M. Maurya is the Principal of the Sudha Rustagi College of Dental Sciences and Research. He started his career with a BDS degree from Government Dental College Rohtak, followed by an MDS in Community Dentistry and a PG Diploma in Hospital Administration. Presently, he is also pursuing a PhD from SGT University.

Dr. Maurya has guided ten theses of MDS students. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oral Health and Community Dentistry and holds memberships to the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry, the Indian Dental Association and the International Society for Fluoride Research. He has also been listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care in 2011.

What are your primary responsibilities as a principal of Sudha Rustogi Dental College?

My main duties as the principal of Sudha Rustogi Dental College include informing the management about the major programmes and services of the college and seeking their approval as required. I am involved with the development of the curriculum for undergraduates, post-graduates and examinations, and I am also responsible for the operational aspects of undergraduate and postdoctoral programmes. I look over the coordination of all research, educational and training activities and clinical services related to the college. I need to mentor faculty, staff and students and engage with them in effective and successful teamwork. I have also represented the institute's outside programmes and been involved with outreach community service activities related to oral health and disease prevention. Overall, I help create an environment where professors can flourish, students can thrive, and the institution can fulfill its objective of delivering the best possible dentistry education and research.

Can you describe any specific measures or programs that your university has implemented to address the rising mental health issues and stress among students in India?

The Sudha Rustogi Dental College has put in place a number of preventative measures and programmes to deal with the mounting mental health issues and stress experienced by our students in India. A comprehensive network of mental health resources, including peer mentoring programmes and on-campus counselling services, has been built. In addition, we have included stress management and mental wellness lessons in our curriculum, encouraging children to take care of themselves and have a positive mindset.

What new initiatives and collaborations have the University has taken?

The educational experience of our students has been enhanced by the proactive efforts of Sudha Rustogi Dental College in establishing new initiatives and partnerships. In order to facilitate staff and student exchange programs and promote cross-cultural learning and research collaborations, we recently partnered with top dental universities in India and abroad. In addition, we've started multidisciplinary research initiatives to tackle urgent healthcare issues. Additionally, our institution has adopted online courses and virtual classrooms to provide accessibility and flexibility for our students. 


What inspired you to pursue a career in higher education administration as a Principal, and what drew you to your current role as a Principal?

My decision to become a principal in higher education was motivated by a strong belief in the transformative potential of education. After working as a teacher for many years, I saw the positive effects that a well-rounded educational setting might have on students and society. It presents me with an exceptional chance to influence the course of our institution, mold the future of ambitious dental professionals, and significantly advance dental education.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Discover your genuine interests and passions, and then match your educational and professional options to them. When you are passionate about what you do, it serves as a source of drive and fulfilment. Set definite, attainable short- and long-term objectives for yourself. Setting goals gives you focus and a sense of direction.
