Mrs. Pooja Prakash

Being a Faculty of the Shine Abdur Razzaque Ansari Institute of Health, Ranchi, what are your roles and responsibilities toward the students?

As the Centre Manager, I have numerous responsibilities for all the departments. I believe that the teacher is known by the way he teaches in the class program which is neglected these days. Most teachers, concentrate more on research and less on teaching. Teachers are known as teachers because of their classroom teaching and their research which depends on classroom teaching. Therefore, classroom teaching is the main responsibility of a faculty member. Thereafter, comes the responsibility of teaching and thereafter administrative activities.

When you first came to this college, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

My vision has always been to relate teaching with the everyday experiences of life so that students can relate more to the examples. Teaching is not something which has to depend on bookish knowledge or the kind of knowledge that we have gained from our research. It has to be integrated with our everyday experiences of life. This is what has always guided me in my teaching. My philosophy of teaching is guided by such experiences and how my everyday experiences reshape my teaching.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

Trying to maintain healthy relationships is a tricky matter but necessary. I often find teachers and students complaining about each other. The teacher has to understand the psychology of the students like their parents and students and vice versa. Teachers are like the third parents and make an effort to understand the children accordingly. Responsibility lies on both sides, but the responsibility of the teacher is more than their students and this responsibility has to be carried out properly.

How do you help your students to cope with the competitions being so high in the outside world?

I always remind my students to focus on deserving before desiring. It's important to make oneself competent and eligible for any competition before participating in it. That's why we offer a subject like soft skills, which not only focuses on linguistic skills but also on communicative skills. In today's highly competitive world, having only subject knowledge is no longer sufficient. Soft skills are crucial in the competitive job market to stand out from others. A strong communication ability and a positive attitude are essential to overcome life's challenges. Subjects like soft skills, public speaking, and presentation skills are increasingly important and can help individuals gain confidence in themselves.

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the quality of your department?

The number of students is growing every day. We need to improve the quality of education and expand it. While the delivery of education has improved significantly over the past couple of years and more students are joining prestigious institutes, there is a need for more infrastructure development like more modern classrooms and laboratories and faculty recruitment. The government needs to prioritize this to support the growing student population.

Any suggestion you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

In today's world, you have so many technological innovations around you. In the last twenty years, there has been such a technological revolution everywhere, an information revolution. You are loaded with information; you have to select the relevant information to focus on properly. Do something for society. Remember, whatever you do, like when you are getting an education, your society is paying for you. In return, you have to pay back to society. Many areas need attention which young people must come forward to look at.
