Dr. Anita Kumari, Dean of Student Welfare, is an expert English literature and language university professor with more than 15 years of teaching experience at the college level. She received her PhD in English language from Vinoba Bhave University and has more than 25 publications in academic journals all over the world. She has a keen interest in guiding research work and her research interests span English literature, phonetics and communication skills. Under her supervision, two research scholars were awarded Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature.
Dr. Kumari is recognised as the author of two books and she also holds two patents derived from her research. She has given numerous invited talks and tutorials, is a reviewer in national and international journals, and has chaired and participated in numerous English literature and language study events and conferences throughout the nation to develop additional expertise. She also worked on collaborating with other department colleagues to promote English literature and language events throughout the year on campus. Her commitment is to helping university students reach their full potential in their studies. She has a strong philosophy of teaching and knowledge, using different methods to motivate students to develop their expertise in specific areas. She has also organised several women’s safety programs and university outreach events that help promote learning and support the community.

What inspired you to pursue a career in higher education administration, and what drew you to your current role as a Dean?
My pursuit of a career in higher education administration was driven by a passion for fostering academic environments that empower students and contribute to their intellectual growth. As a Dean, the opportunity to shape educational policies and facilitate positive change drew me to this leadership role.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing higher education today, and how do you think your institution is addressing those challenges?
The biggest challenges in higher education today include adapting to technological advancements, addressing diversity and inclusion, and navigating financial constraints. Our institution prioritises strategic planning, embraces technology in education, and actively promotes diversity through inclusive policies and programs.
What do you think sets your institution apart from other colleges and universities and how do you communicate that unique value proportion to students and other Stakeholders?

What are your primary responsibilities as Dean and how do you balance them with other aspects of your job?
As a Dean, my primary responsibilities include academic leadership, policy development, and fostering a positive learning environment. Balancing these with administrative duties requires effective time management, delegation, and a collaborative approach with faculty and staff.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in pursuing a career in your university?
To those interested in a career at our university, I would advise a proactive approach to professional development. There is a need to develop a commitment to achieve success among the students. There must also be a willingness to contribute to the institution's growth and innovation.

Our RKDF University in Ranchi has established initiatives and collaborations with industry leaders to develop industry-specific courses. These partnerships also ensure our curriculum remains relevant and prepares students for real-world challenges. These partnerships also facilitate internships and job placements.
How do you describe your management style?
My management style is collaborative and inclusive. I believe in fostering a team-oriented environment where open communication, creativity, and diversity of thought are valued. I try to work with everyone, address their issues and collaboratively come up with ways to achieve our institute goals.
Can you describe any specific measures or programs that your institution has implemented to address the rising mental health issues and stress among students in India?
Our RKDF University Ranchi has implemented various mental health programs, including counselling services, workshops, and awareness campaigns. Additionally, we've integrated mental health education into the curriculum, aiming to destigmatize mental health issues and promote overall well-being among students.
Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
To the youth and aspiring students, I would emphasise the importance of pursuing a passion. It is also important to embrace lifelong learning and actively seek out opportunities for personal and professional growth. Stay resilient but also be adaptable. Moreover, don't hesitate to explore diverse paths to success.
