You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Young minds are very creative, and we mold them with future needs keeping values and ethics as the base. Finding solutions, maybe 60 or 120 (per the class strength and multiple iterations) for the same problem identified is a challenge that keeps you motivated. With my experience of doctoral work in ‘Innovation and Creativity in Teaching’ -The learning process is the base in all my classes to map the student's response to their growth. 

What are some myths students have related to Bachelor in Design (B. Des) that are false?

Students have a firm myth of worrying about placement. They should focus on the content that they are going to learn. The four years of B.Des. are a roller-coaster ride, and one has to perform and enjoy the journey. They will get placements for sure.

Students' portfolios should include hand sketching or the use of digital tools. The ideal portfolio should start with the introduction and aspirations to perceive a particular specialization. Then, they should include sketches of objects, portraits, perspectives, landscapes, use of digital tools, character building, photography, and craft articles (to demonstrate hand skills). The last slide should include the school and sports achievements, if any. 

How do you build the industry connection in this program at SSPAD, Nagpur?

The multilayer module starts with guest lecture series – Glimpse of Industry, Industry-Academia conclave, Internships, Sponsored degree projects, Joint Studios, and Placements. Also, an industry person is present in all program review committees to suggest the changes to make in curricula twice a year to bridge the gap between industry and academics. 

What type of projects are the students working on through this Bachelor of Design (B. Des) Program at SSPAD, Nagpur?

Based on the specialization, the students are working on graphic design (Branding, advertising, promotion), user experience (App making, game design, coding), product design (digitalization, design research), and interior space design (residence, school, offices).

The students have careers in Design firms, Retail, and the IT sector. They can work under government projects toward digital India, entrepreneurship, and for artisans with NGOS on different rural artisan development schemes. 

Do you have extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance students’ skills or expose them to real-world challenges?

Definably, yes, SIU is a health-promoting university. Sports are highly encouraged on every campus. Our curriculum has sustainability, working with local artisans, and social responsibility projects.
