Mr. Madhur Pateria is the Head of the Civil Department at Vaishnavi Institute of Technology and Science. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. He had researched Hypo Sludge. He has a total experience of 12 years in the teaching field.

Being a Faculty of the Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

My role & responsibility is to teach the students of the Civil Department & as a teacher, my role is not just to dictate the knowledge to them but also to make them ethical people in their life. Apart from education I also focus on extracurricular activities as they boost their confidence, and ability to understand things & also develop their personality.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

I never thought my profession that I have to maintain healthy relations with the students & fellow faculty members because I believe that I have to follow my duty honestly & it automatically aligns things for me & I also believe that if I am strict with them they will understand the reason behind it in the future.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

I try to bring a practical approach to the subject by doing practicals as well as having a field visit as civil engineering is a subject in which a student can learn things by doing practicals on themselves & We also take them to industrial visits too as it helps them understand things in a better way.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students?

Our curriculum is affiliated with RGPV & we often update our courses according to their rules & regulations apart from that we have also added additional subjects to our curriculum as it helps students gain the necessary knowledge in this fast-changing world.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department? How does your department prepare students for placements?

According to me Companies that come for placements generally look for communication, skills & knowledge in a particular candidate & we prepare them for that by conducting training & placement classes so that they can increase their verbal, & thinking abilities to understand & interpret things better & make them prepaid in advance for their placements.

How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high on the outside world?

According to me if we teach the students in a better way & help them increase their technical knowledge & skills will automatically help them cope with the competition & according to me if a student does regularly practices what he has been taught in the classes & have confidence in him he can do wonders in his or her life.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Yes. Our institution allows us to do extracurricular activities on and off the field in our department by celebrating various festivals as well as providing various indoor & outdoor games so that students can enhance themselves with their education & one more advantage of our university is that we dig out the internal confidence of the students which help them realize their potential & be ready to face the challenges.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

The challenges that are faced in our department are that scholarships that are provided by the government & the students take them for granted & I have seen that because of this the students are not giving proper dedication to their studies which is hampering their education. The second is that the teachers that are teaching the students are teachers by chance & not by choice which is hampering the quality of education.

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

I have a thin-line concept that what I teach to the students I have to deliver it in such a way that if a third person asks them about a particular topic they will be able to answer that easily & I also educate them on the ethical values as well & if they learn both of these things in their life I believe I have made my education & vision complete.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

My simple advice to the students is to focus on their quality of education as it will help them reach new heights in their careers.
