He has a wonderful 17 years of experience in the education sector and his teaching interest and expertise areas include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Network Security, Data Science and Cloud Computing etc. He has also earned several patents in the fields of autonomous driving, COVID-19 prevention, traffic sign identification, and face recognition using machine learning. Being a Head of CSE Department, what are your key responsibilities towards the students?

As a Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, my primary roles and responsibilities revolve around providing quality education and support to our students. Hence, I am accountable for designing and delivering engaging lectures, creating a positive learning environment on campus, offering guidance and mentorship to students as and when needed, and assessing their academic progress. Apart from this, I need to stay updated with the latest research and educational methods of our field, to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and beneficial to students' academic and personal growth. Overall, I aim to inspire and empower our students to help them excel in their studies and future endeavors.


How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty of your college? 

I strongly believe that for achieving a productive academic environment, it's very essential to have healthy and respectful relationships with students and fellow faculty. Therefore, I regularly connect with my students through a transparent communication channel, actively listen to their queries and issues and have made myself easily approachable by them. I also encourage them to share their thoughts, concerns, and feedback for creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. And when it comes to fellow faculty, I collaborate with them on a regular basis for research projects, sharing ideas, and contributing to departmental activities. And, by being respectful, cooperative, and fostering a sense of camaraderie helps us to build trust and a strong sense of unity within the department, ultimately benefiting everyone involved.


How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

For the purpose of enforcing a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects, I have incorporated real-world examples and case studies into my teaching. I also emphasize hands-on projects and encourage students to apply their classroom learning and innovative methods to solve real world issues. We also organize guest lectures in collaboration with industry experts from time to time to provide insights of current trends and challenges to students. Last but not the least, I promote internships and cooperative education programs to give students firsthand industry experience, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workforce.


What best practices are being offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills? 

In order to help students gain necessary skills and knowledge and guide them about the latest trends and technologies of the industrial world, our CSE Department regularly conducts workshops and seminars. In addition to this, we motivate students to take part in Hackathons and other technical competitions where they can enhance their problem-solving abilities and learn the importance of teamwork. Then there are mock interviews, resume-building sessions, and career counseling to help students prepare for job opportunities. Lastly, the department promotes research projects and encourages students to publish their work, fostering critical thinking and communication skills.


How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

We all should know that developing and updating curriculum is a dynamic process. Hence, we begin by aligning our institution goals with industry trends and educational standards. Also, we update the curriculum annually and do a thorough review every 3 years. And as and when needed, suggestions and feedback are taken from corporate experts, eminent academicians, college's students and faculty to make sure that course content remains relevant and integrate emerging technologies and real-world applications into it. This approach also ensures that our students are equipped with the latest knowledge and skills, stay competitive in the job market and foster intellectual growth.

How does your department prepare students for placement and higher education?

Students' higher education and placement in good companies is a top priority for our department, hence we regularly collaborate with our industry partners to maintain an active career services unit to facilitate placements. Apart from this, guidance sessions and required resources are offered to those interested in pursuing higher education, from time to time. Then we have a robust and dynamic curriculum, to improve problem-solving skills of students and inculcate in them essential critical thinking and research capabilities for advanced degrees. As a result, our students have a strong track record of success in securing employment and furthering their education.


How do you help your student to deal with the outside competitive world?

We assist our students to courageously face intense external competition by fostering a growth mindset in them. Other than this, we emphasize skill development over competition and encourage our students to improve on personal and professional level and adapt continuously in accordance with the changing environment. We also offer mentorship programs to students where they can easily seek guidance from successful professionals, gain insights and develop the necessary skills to excel in their chosen field. This approach not only builds resilience and self-confidence, but also enables them to navigate the competitive landscape effectively.


Which extracurricular activities are organized by your college to enhance the skills of students?

With the aim to enhance students' skills and make them ready for the real-world challenges, our institution organizes a range of co-curricular activities such as workshops and seminars on entrepreneurship, leadership and problem-solving approaches on a regular basis. Apart from this, clubs and societies which we have established over the years also help us in promoting teamwork and creativity on campus by developing a holistic learning atmosphere that goes beyond the classroom and equip students with required practical skills and experiences. Last but not the least, we have strong partnerships with leading industries, through which we can easily provide amazing internship and community service opportunities to young and ambitious youths. 


What challenges have you faced while uplifting the education quality of your department? 

There are several key challenges which we face at different levels, and the very first is the need to continuously integrate updated resources and technologies in all our academic activities. Apart from this, keeping the curriculum and teaching methods relevant in a rapidly changing educational landscape has been demanding. Then comes the hurdle of motivating students and faculty to embrace innovative approaches and quickly adapt to new methodologies. Lastly, maintaining a balance between academic rigor and practical relevance while managing limited budgets has also been an ongoing roadblock.


When you joined Jai Narain College, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

My goal when I joined the Jai Narain College was to create an environment where students not only acquire knowledge but also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to succeed in even the toughest endeavors of life. And to make my vision true, I have been regularly promoting active learning methods, culture of research and innovation on campus followed by interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of real-world applications into the curriculum. And to measure our progress, we have implemented regular assessments and feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the quality of education and align it with our initial vision.

How does the curriculum of your department ensure the best practices of industry? 

We have kept the curriculum of our department industry relevant by maintaining close ties with key players. And we regularly consult with industry experts to update our courses, ensuring they reflect the latest trends and technologies. Then we have highly educated faculty members who bring with them their amazing industry experience into the classroom. Our college also hosts corporate seminars and workshops about current practices and we provide our full support and assistance to students for internships and co-programs so that they can gain required practical exposure.


How does your department enhance the faculty skills and prepare them as per industry standards? 

For the purpose of keeping our teaching methodologies in line with latest industry standards, our college invests heavily in faculty development. And our teachers regularly attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on corporate practices and pedagogical advancements. Apart from this, they are often engaged in industry projects, consulting and research to maintain industry relevance in all our endeavors. Lastly, our institution encourages them to pursue corporate relevant certifications and offers incentives to those who do so. 


What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students? 

Beyond the prescribed curriculum, we have implemented a multifaceted approach to ensure students all around growth and development. First and foremost, we promote active learning through project-based assignments and apprenticeships and encourage critical thinking in them through group discussions. Then we have dedicated mentorship sessions to improve the communication and problem-solving skills of students, so that they can grow on both personal and professional fronts. Overall, I would say that by fostering a holistic educational environment, we aim to prepare students not only for academic success but also for the challenges they will encounter in their upcoming future.


What are some of the greatest strengths of your CSE Department and how can it be enhanced?

The greatest strengths of our department lies in its dedicated and highly qualified faculty members and research capabilities. Because, we have professors with extensive experience in their respective domains who contribute significantly to students and institution growth. And in my opinion, to enhance this strength, we should invest in more collaborative research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives. Additionally, expanding our industry partnerships and creating internship opportunities can bridge the gap between academia and the job market. Last but not the least, strengthening alum networks can also provide valuable insights and mentorship for current students.


Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead? 

I would advise my dear students and youths of our society to prioritize continuous learning, if they truly wish to secure a prosperous career for themselves. In addition to this, stay curious, adapt to changing trends, and seek opportunities for skill development. Also, build a solid professional network by engaging with peers, mentors, and industry professionals and always remember that failures are part of the journey and not the journey itself, so stay resilient when you encounter them. Lastly, maintain a healthy work-life balance to sustain long-term success.
