Being a head of the department of the college, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

My main responsibility is to manage and motivate all departmental staff, and to enable the students to receive skilled education in the subject, in a positive, encouraging and effective working environment. I need to make sure the students are getting better results in their exams and skill developing programs.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

The most prominent indication of a healthy student-teacher relationship is mutual feedback. The mutual feedback with the faculty results in better output as we can understand where we are lacking and work on it. We take feedback not just from the students but also from the teaching faculty members and staff members regarding the difficulties they are facing on campus.


How do you try to bring in practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

The project method of teaching imparts practical knowledge to the students because the basis of their knowledge is their personal experiences. This practical knowledge is very useful for their development through dedicated programs and career orientation processes. Our students also complete internships and case study based projects regularly during the course of their program.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

The institute offers students services like counselling placement training support, personality grooming, occasional plant visits and corporate lectures. These aim at enhancing the education they receive at our college. Our college always focuses on skill development for the students.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

We start by describing and writing down our vision, focus, and objectives. These objectives encompass everyone at our college, faculty and students, and take into account their needs. We then identify and allocate resources to these in an effective manner. Our focus is to develop experiences that meet our objectives. We follow the curriculum as per AICTE norms and update it on time according to the changes in technology around the world.


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world? 

I try to help my students improve teamwork and collaboration. I make it a point to praise my students when they make an effort. Upskilling their competitive nature mindset from college days only will lead to achieving high career-wise. We always show the outside competition regularly to encourage the students to focus on their skills.


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

One of the main challenges facing the education system in India is unequal access to education. We always focus on the communication skills and technical skills of the students which is very important at present days for placements or startups. However, at the same time, practical skills and the ability to work in the workplace are also important.


When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

My vision when I joined was to create a model student, engaged in the school, community and family with a reputation for high performance and excellence. It was very challenging compared to my previous work because here I needed to show the pathway for the students. However, we are trying to overcome the challenge.

How does the curriculum of your department/college ensures the best practice of the industry? 

I believe we should start building our course to offer options in both online and offline delivery modes, and it must be made engaging for the students. We update our syllabuses or the curriculum at regular intervals for better output of the subject. We focus on the student's attendance at the classes so that we can ensure they do not miss the main topics in the syllabus.


What do you see the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

An ideal atmosphere of inclusiveness, tolerance and togetherness, enhancing unity, integrity and cooperation amidst diversity, are keys to the success of a college. The department’s harmony with the college plays a vital role in students' teaching and clearing their doubts about the subject.


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

Seek internship opportunities, consider taking part in a work-study program and grow your skills and knowledge. Improve communication skills at regular intervals to compete with the outside world. Focus on career growth, as it is very important and essential for present youth.
