Dr. Jebarani Evangeline S has been working as the Associate Professor and Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at SNS College of Engineering, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She has done BE in 2000, ME in 2004 and PhD in 2020 as part of her education. Also, she has an amazing 18 years of work experience in the teaching sector and her core specializations are Electric Vehicle, Smart Grid, Special Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives and Machine Learning. Apart from this, throughout her career, she has guided 17 UG projects and 16 PG projects, published research papers in 11 journals and has 114 citations and 3 patents on her name. She is a proud members of professional body ISTE, organized 33 workshops and seminars and attended 33 Faculty Development Programs till date.
What latest program are you offering in your department to help students stand apart from the crowd?
For the purpose of equipping students with a skill set that will be needed in future and enriching their overall learning experience in accordance with industrial trends, our department offers a full-time and 4 years duration BE course in the discipline of Electrical and Electronics Engineering along with a minor degree in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science.
And this integration not only enables our students to understand how these advanced technologies intersect with and complement core engineering principles but also allow them to fulfill the current and future needs of the industry, thereby enhancing their employability and versatility. Because AI & DS open up new avenues for innovation and research within the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, students with a strong background in it can develop intelligent solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Our BE (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) program has been enriched with a minor degree in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, hence offers a unique and compelling educational experience to students. Another factor which makes it worth pursuing for students is our industry-driven curriculum and seamless integration of technologies with the course to offer career flexibility to young and ambitious minds. What best practices has your institute adopted to deliver the finest quality education to students?
Our institution embraces design thinking as a cornerstone of its pedagogical approach, recognizing it as a best practice that cultivates a transformative and student-centric learning environment. And, by incorporating design thinking principles into our teaching methodologies, we have focused on creating a dedicated environment for students learning and promoting the ambiance of innovation and creativity on campus.
How does the program of your department ensure the future preparedness of students?
Our BE course has been designed by adapting the current trends of the industrial world and mindset of lifelong learning, hence it incorporates both technical and soft skills in students to ensure that they are well prepared for the competitive corporate world. In addition to this, we have integrated 7 technologies in 7 thrust areas and given more emphasis on hands-on experience through laboratory work, projects and Internships.
Also, a Center of Creativity has been established on campus to engage students in research activities from time to time and foster a spirit of inquiry and innovation in them. And then we have an Industry-Institute Partnership Cell which collaborates with leading industries on a regular basis to get their suggestions, feedback and make changes in our pedagogies and curriculum as and when needed. Last but not the least, we have started Social Responsibility Initiatives to give back to society sustainable and environmentally conscious technologies.

How did your college train faculty to help them effectively deliver the programs to students?
Although all our faculty members are highly educated and experienced in their respective domains, with changing time and technologies they also need skills upgradation, hence to enrich their knowledge our institute focuses on equipping them with effective teaching methodologies by providing dedicated training programs. Our college also encourages them to participate in professional development workshops, interdisciplinary research collaboration and earn professional certifications through MOOC.
How does your institute build a strong connection between its courses and industry demands?
In order to develop a strong connection between our college courses and corporate requirements, we have a dedicated Advisory Board such as Board of Studies, which is primarily composed of industry experts as a key member and we also work with our corporate partners on collaborative research projects from time to time. Apart from this, we provide structured internship programs to our students as and when needed.
Events such as guest lectures and workshops are also organized by us in association with experts and they are invited on campus to deliver courses we offer to students. Last but not the least, we motivate our teachers and young minds to regularly participate in industry conferences, seminars and trade shows etc.

A plethora of work opportunities are available in the outside world for those who are competent enough and have required skills set and students after pursuing a BE program in EEE specialization with a minor degree in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science from our institution can work as a Electrical Engineer, Electronics Engineer, AI Engineer, Data Scientist, Control System Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, R & D Engineer/Scientist, Energy Engineer, Consultant, Entrepreneur, Quality Assurance/Control Engineer and Educator or Researcher with leading industries or educational institutions and earn a hefty salary package on annual basis.
Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students for a prosperous career ahead?
I would like to advise my dear students and youths of our society to develop a solid understanding of fundamentals and explore a variety of skills beyond their core specialization. Also, have a mindset of lifelong learning, develop strong communication skills and be quickly adaptable to articulate your ideas clearly, both in writing and verbally.
You must also create a portfolio to showcase your projects, achievements and skills. Other than this, keep yourself updated about the emerging trends, tools, and methodologies of your respective field and build a strong professional network that can help you thrive in your career.
