S.Saravanan has been working as the Head of Science and Humanities Department and as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Kathir College of Engineering Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He has a wonderful 10 years of teaching experience in the domain of Engineering and he has done M. Sc. and M.Phil. from Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore as part of his education. He has also qualified Tamilnadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) in 2017 and his area of interest includes Engineering Mathematics II, Numerical Methods, Differential & Integral Calculus and Control Theory. 

For being an innovative and dedicated faculty, he has received an award from the Society of Innovate Educationalist & Scientific Research Professional, Chennai in 2018 and has been accredited with Innovative Scientific Research Professional, Malaysia. Also, during his professional journey in the education sector, he has attended many National and International level Conferences, Workshops and Seminars and has published numerous research papers in reputed International Journals.

Being the Head of Department, what are your prime responsibilities for the college and students?

As a Department Head, I am responsible for working for the growth of our college and students by providing them with a comprehensive and valuable knowledge base, in accordance with the standards and guidelines set by the University.

In addition to this, I need to ensure that our department's curriculum has been developed as per industry standards and requirements and our teaching methodologies and assessment practices are in sync with the demands of the University. 

Last but not the least, providing students with a strong foundation in science and humanities subjects, fostering critical thinking capabilities in them and improving their communication skills by arranging required training programs for them on time comes under the scope of my job.

Which latest program are you offering in your department to help students stand apart from the crowd?

At present, our Science and Humanities Department is offering a latest program to students with the aim to enhance their moral and ethical values, professional etiquettes and communication skills so that they can stand apart from the crowd.

Ultra-Modern laboratories have also been established on campus to strengthen practical understanding of students about various subjects and develop strong.

Apart from this, to enhance the reasoning and decision-making capabilities and interpersonal communication skills of students, we teach them using interactive sessions, case studies, and role-playing exercises. And our motto here is to prepare students for this unpredictable and cut-throat competitive world, enable them to excel in various career paths and make a positive impact in society.

What kind of laboratories have been established by your department to conduct experiments?

For the purpose of facilitating best possible hands-on learning environment to students so that they can apply theoretical concepts and gain a deeper understanding of various subjects, our Science and Humanities Department has established various laboratories including Engineering Physics Laboratory where students conduct experiments related to mechanics, optics, and electricity followed by Engineering Chemistry Laboratory which provides facilities for students to explore chemical reactions and analyze materials.

Along with this, there is a Communication Skills Laboratory which has been set up to focus on enhancing verbal and written communication skills of students through interactive exercises and multimedia resources and then we have a Computer Programming Laboratory which is well-equipped with state-of-the-art computers and software to enable students to practice coding and develop programming skills.

Any valuable suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

I would like to suggest to my dear students and aspiring youths of our society to prioritize practical learning, strengthen their concepts through hands-on experiments and engage themselves in more research projects and laboratories based experiments. Because, we all know that theory provides the foundation of a subject, but practical application is what truly solidifies understanding of it. And once they will get a solid understanding of the subject, it will boost their confidence, help them tackle real-world challenges and stand out in academic as well as professional pursuits. 

Also, they should learn from their mistakes instead of regretting it and learn new things to enhance their problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.

What are some of the greatest strengths of your college?

Our college's greatest strengths lie in our exceptional placement statistics and the remarkable academic results achieved by our students, because the consistent track record of our students securing placements in renowned companies is a testament to the quality of education and skill development opportunities we provide to them on a regular basis. 

Apart from this, I would like to highlight that the sincere dedication and expertise of our highly educated teachers coupled with a conducive learning environment, contribute extensively to the outstanding academic record of our bright students. And these achievements not only reflect our commitment to excellence but also inspire us to continually strive for the holistic development and success of our students in their future endeavors.

What are some of the key plans that you are designing for students at present?

At present, we are developing a comprehensive program incorporating various activities, workshops, and discussions to promote ethical awareness and values, moral reasoning and responsible behavior in the students in the best way possible. Another factor of introducing this program is to nurture students' character and their integrity and ethical decision-making abilities and empower them to become socially responsible professionals and contributors for society.

And our aim behind integrating ethical principles into our curriculum and providing opportunities for reflection and dialogue, is to instill a strong ethical foundation in our students.

Which crucial factors have kept you connected with the education sector?

Teaching is my passion and I love spreading my knowledge and educating the young generation of our society. Also, the immense happiness and satisfaction that comes when I witness the growth and development of my students, see their intellectual curiosity flourish and help them achieve their goals are main factors that have helped me stay connected with the challenging yet dynamic educational world. 

Apart from this, working in the education sector helps me to learn new things, explore innovative teaching methodologies and stay updated with the latest developments of my field on a regular basis. Hence I would say the opportunities I get to make a positive impact on students' lives and contribute to their educational journey is another driving force behind my long association with the education sector.
