Ques. Is SNAP a sectional exam (i.e., must you finish a section in fixed time)?

Ans. No, the SNAP does not have sectional time limits; the SNAP exam is a total of 60 minutes to complete 60 MCQs across 3 sections:

  • General English: 15 questions
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning: 25 questions
  • Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency: 20 questions

You can attempt these sections in any order and allocate your time as you see fit.

Ques. If I appear in multiple SNAP tests, how is my final score/percentile decided?

Ans. If you take multiple SNAP tests, your highest raw score among all the attempts will be considered while calculating your final percentile.

There is no normalization of the scores across your different attempts. Each test is treated independently, and your highest score is selected without any adjustments for difficulty variations between sessions.

Ques. How many questions is a “good attempt”?

Ans. A good attempt in the SNAP exam generally ranges between 42 to 48 questions, depending on the difficulty level of the test. This marks range means attempting approximately 70–80% of the total 60 questions.

Section-wise Good Attempts:

  • General English (15 questions): Aim to attempt 11–13 questions. This section is generally considered easier.
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning (25 questions): Aim to attempt 18–20 questions. This section is typically moderate in difficulty.
  • Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (20 questions): Aim to attempt 12–14 questions. This section is often moderate to difficult.
Ques. How is negative marking handled? Should I guess if unsure?

Ans. The SNAP exam has a negative marking scheme where each incorrect answer results in a deduction of 0.25 marks.

You should avoid random guessing to minimize the risk of negative marking. You can skip questions you're unsure about to avoid unnecessary deductions.

SNAP Exam Pattern- Sectional Time Limit

According to the SAP Test structure mentioned by SIU on the official website, there is no sectional time limit in SNAP exam 2025.

  • For each session of SNAP test 2025, students will get 60 minutes.
  • Students will be required to solve a total of 60 questions in each session.
  • Once the test starts, the remaining time will be displayed on the screen.
  • Students belonging to the PWD category will get extra time to solve the SNAP exam 2025.
  • Students preparing for SNAP exam 2025 must appear for SNAP Mock Test to improve time management and understand SNAP exam pattern.

SNAP Marking Scheme

As per the SNAP test marking scheme, 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer. -0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer in the SNAP 2025 exam.

Answer Type Marking Scheme
Correct Answer +1
Incorrect/unanswered -0.25

From Analytical & Logical Reasoning, a total of 25 questions will be asked. 20 questions will be asked from Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency as per the SNAP exam pattern 2025.

SNAP Section SNAP Number of Questions SNAP Marks
General English: Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability 15 15
Analytical & Logical Reasoning 25 25
Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency 20 20
Total 60 60
SNAP Exam Pattern- Section Wise Weightage

Ques. Does the General English section always include Reading Comprehension (RC)?

Ans. No, in the SNAP exam, the General section does not include Reading Comprehension passages, which focus more on accuracy and speed.

Ques. What topics are high-weightage in each section?

Ans. The high topics -weightage in each section of SNAP are:

  • In General English: The most asked topics are Grammar (error spotting, sentence correction), Vocabulary (synonyms, idioms), Para-jumbles, and Critical Reasoning.
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning: The high-weightage with the highest number of questions, around 25, topics are Puzzles & Arrangements, Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Syllogisms, and Critical/Verbal Reasoning.
  • Quantitative, DI & DS: Key topics are Arithmetic (percentages, ratios, averages, TSD, work), Modern Math (P&C, probability), Algebra, Number System, Geometry/Mensuration.

Ques. How does SNAP compare with other MBA entrance exams (e.g. CAT, XAT, NMAT) in terms of pattern?

  • Ans. SNAP is a 60-minute examination with 60 questions and has three attempts with the highest score being considered, while CAT is 120 minutes long and contains approximately 66 questions with a single attempt.
  • XAT is of 210 minutes duration with an essay and GK section and NMAT is 120 minutes long with 108 questions with a provision of up to three attempts in its testing window.
  • SNAP consists of three sections—General English, Analytical & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative/DI/DS—like CAT, but XAT includes Decision Making and GK, and NMAT includes Language Skills, Quant + DI, and Logical Reasoning.
  • The other notable difference is that SNAP doesn't have sectional time limits like CAT, XAT, and NMAT, so candidates have the flexibility to move between sections.
  • SNAP questions are of medium difficulty but need to be answered with high speed (approximately one minute per question), while CAT and XAT are usually more challenging conceptually, and NMAT is less challenging but timed.
  • SNAP imposes a negative marking of -0.25 for each incorrect answer, CAT takes away -1 for MCQs (but not TITA questions), XAT has negative marking and even penalties for large unattempted questions, while NMAT imposes no negative marking.

In general, SNAP prefers test takers with fast decision-making and precision, CAT and XAT reward substantial conceptual preparation, and NMAT enables a little more risk-taking as there are no penalties involved.

Ques. Are there any major changes expected in SNAP pattern in coming years?

Ans. No major change has been officially announced by SNAP 2025. The pattern in 2025 is largely similar to 2024, with no major change.

The major change has happened in the past years. In 2020, the SNAP exam duration was reduced from 2 hours to 60 minutes (1 hour), and the number of questions was reduced from ~110 to 60.

Ques. What order should I attempt sections and how to divide time?

Ans. As SNAP allows you to attempt the sections in any order in 60 minutes to answer 60 MCQs. To maximise your performance, you should divide the time in each section and allocate 20 minutes to each section. By this, you will be able to complete your exam effectively.

  • Reading Comprehension (RC): Limit each RC set to 6 minutes. If you haven't answered all questions within this time, move on to the next set.
  • Logical Reasoning (LR): Allocate 90 seconds per question. If a question is taking longer, mark it and return to it later.
  • Flagging Questions: Reserve the last 4 minutes to review flagged questions and make final attempts.
Section Suggested Time Allocation Rationale
Analytical & Logical Reasoning (A-LR) 20 minutes Typically the most time-consuming section. Prioritize it to tackle complex puzzles and arrangements early when your mind is fresh.
Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency (QA, DI-DS) 20 minutes Moderate difficulty; allocate time based on your comfort level. Focus on solving easier questions first to build confidence.
General English (GE) 20 minutes Often the quickest section. Start with Reading Comprehension (RC) sets, capping each at 6 minutes.

SNAP Exam Pattern: Previous Years’ Analysis

The SNAP exam pattern has evolved from a lengthy, multi-format exam to a fast-paced, precision-based exam.

  • In 2019, the SNAP was a 2-hour paper with around 110 questions, including MCQ, non-MCQ, special questions, and Current Affairs.
  • In SNAP 2020, the duration was reduced to 60 minutes, and the questions were also reduced to 60 MCQs; special questions and Current Affairs were removed, three test slots were introduced, and negative marking –0.25.
  • In the years 2021-2023, the duration was stable at 60 minutes with 60 MCQs (15 English, 20 Quant + DI/DS, 25 Reasoning), minimal or no RC, moderate difficulty.
  • In SNAP 2024, the format remains the same 60-minute, 60-question format; English slightly tougher, Quant & Reasoning moderate‑to‑difficult.
Year Duration No. of Questions / Sections Special / Other Features Changes Introduced That Year
2024 Still 60 minutes 60 questions divided as above (15 + 20 + 25) Difficulty: English slightly tougher (especially vocabulary); quant and reasoning moderate-to-difficult depending on slot; “good attempts” generally around 43-45 in many slots/slides; three slots. Pattern quite stable; variation comes via slot-to-slot difficulty and topic-mix, not via format changes.
2021-2023 Stayed at 60 minutes duration 60 questions: 15 English, 20 Quant + DI/DS, 25 Analytical & Logical Reasoning Fully MCQ; no special or non-MCQ questions; three slots in winter (Dec / Jan) for attempts; no Reading Comprehension in many years (or RC minimal) in English section. Stability in structure; candidates had time to adapt to the “short, fast” format.
2020 Reduced to 60 minutes Total 60 questions; no special questions; three test-slots/dates; split attempts allowed Completely MCQ format; no non-MCQs or special questions; negative marking consistent; syllabus sections trimmed to three; Current Affairs dropped. Major revision likely due to COVID adjustments; streamlined exam.
2019 120 minutes (2 hr) ~110 MCQs + some non-MCQs + special questions + Current Affairs section Included Special Questions, “Current Affairs” section; mix of MCQs & non-MCQs. Pattern was broader; test of longer duration; more topics; more variety in question types.

Make yourself familiar with the questions asked and the marking scheme. For this, use previous years’ papers. Strategize a good Study Plan: Give more time to the sections which you find yourself weak in. Study for short spans, but be very consistent in your study time. Don’t spend all your day in just one section, allocate time to every part so that you do not become overwhelmed by studying the same things.  Take Mock Tests Regularly: By practising mock tests you’ll become habitual to the exam pattern, and your time-management skills will also improve. Regular Revisions: Revisions are a great way to brush up on your learnings and to avoid stress once the exam date is near. Stay up-to-date on Current Affairs: Current Affairs aren’t an important part of SNAP, but staying up-to-date on recent developments may help you answer comprehension passages in the Verbal Aptitude section.  Practice Time Management: Try to solve practice papers within the stipulated exam time for SNAP. When you sit for the SNAP exam, do not waste a lot of time on a question you don’t know the answer to, instead, come back to such questions once you finish the rest of your exam.  With hardwork and consistency, you’ll surely score a high percentile in SNAP and get admission into a top Symbiosis Institute for your MBA degree. ...Read More
