NCERT Solutions for Class 10 English First Flight 3 Two Stories About Flying Summary
- Two Stories about Flying, a prose by Liam O' Flaherty, is based on a young seagull afraid of his first flight because of an underlying fear that his wings might not support him during flying.
- While his other siblings took their first flight despite having shorter wings than him, he still remained conscious. He could not gather enough courage to take the plunge due to the mistrust in his wings.
- He tried a number of times to muster the courage to fly off the ledge but couldn’t find enough strength to do so.
- His parents warned him about the misfortune if he did not learn to fly. His parents alerted him about starvation, but all their efforts went fruitless over time.
- One day, the young seagull’s family flew to a giant plateau and taunted him for his cowardice. As the day passed, the sun's heat rose, and the young seagull’s hunger grew as he had been starving since the previous nightfall.
- The young seagull pleaded with his mother to bring him food and cried in joy when his mother picked a fish and flew across with it.
- As his mother flew across, he couldn’t help but lean eagerly and jump to retrieve the fish because of his increased hunger.
- As he jumped, his realization hit and frightened him with the sudden downward plunge. In fear and desperation, he spread his wings and was finally able to take his first flight. He finally soared higher and overcame his fear of falling.
