AILET Exam Pattern: Check No.of Questions, Marking Scheme, Syllabus and Preparation Strategy

The AILET exam pattern for UG comprises 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into 3 sections – English Language, Current Affairs & General Knowledge, and Logical Reasoning. The AILET 2026 exam duration is 120 minutes (2 hours). The AILET exam will have +1 mark for every correct answer and deduct 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer; no marks are given for unattempted questions.

  • The AILET exam duration has also been increased from 90 minutes to 120 minutes.
  • A total of 150 questions will be asked from three sections for B.A. LLB and 100 questions for LLM in AILET Exam Pattern.
  • For AILET LLM, the exam pattern now includes 100 MCQs covering various branches of law, with the descriptive section removed.
  • The total marks for AILET LLM exam pattern are 100, and the exam duration remains 120 minutes.
  • There is negative marking, with 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • The AILET exam will be conducted on December 14, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM.

After the removal of Legal Aptitude and Mathematics from the UG paper, AILET Logical Reasoning is the most weight-carrying section. In case of a tie, logical reasoning scores, candidate age, and computerized lot system are used as tie-breaking criteria.

AILET Exam Pattern 2026

There will be three sections in the exam namely English Language, Current Affairs & General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning. Legal principles may be used in the logical reasoning section to test logical aptitude but the examination will not require legal knowledge or technical understanding.

  • 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) will be asked from these sections.
  • In LLM 100 MCQs will be asked from different branches of Law.
  • There will be sections A and B in the PhD program.
  • A total of 100 MCQs will be asked in PhD exams.
  • 50 questions will be asked from the subject of Research Methodology and the remaining 50 questions will be asked from different branches of Law for PhD in Law course.
  • For PhD in Social Sciences, the remaining 50 MCQs will be asked from different branches of Social Sciences.
  • The exam will be conducted offline and you have to give your responses in the OMR sheet.

Ans. Yes, for every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted from a candidate’s total score. Therefore, candidates must not answer any question without being sure, to score the highest marks.

Tie-Breaking Procedure for AILET 2026 Exam Pattern

As per the new tie-breaker, if you and other aspirants scored the same marks in the All India Law Entrance Test, the following procedure would be considered while preparing the final merit list.

  • Higher marks in the logical reasoning section.
  • If the merit is still the same, aspirants of higher age will be given priority.
  • If there is no merit change, authorities shall consider computerized lot draws.

How to prepare for B.A. LLB courses to take admission in NLU Delhi through AILET 2026?

The Logical Reasoning part has the maximum weightage as 70 questions will be asked from that section. Therefore, you need to prepare for all the important topics in LR.

  • The LR includes critical & analytical reasoning and the analytical includes both verbal and nonverbal reasoning.
  • In Analytical Reasoning, you need to focus on Syllogism, Number Series, Venn Diagram, blood relations, Directions and Coding-decodingIn.
  • Every day you need to practise at least 50 questions from analytical reasoning with a time limit of 30 minutes.
  • In critical reasoning, you must focus on paragraph-based questions from the LSAT exam PYQs of the AILET exam.

AILET LLM Preparation

To prepare for LLM you need to know the most important topics in LLM. Constitutional Law, Criminal Laws, Jurisprudence and Contract acts are the most important topics and most questions are asked about these topics.

  • You need to cover two topics in a day
  • Give 3 hours to these topics from which you can give 2 hours for major topics like Constitutional Laws and 1 hour for minor topics like Laws of torts.
  • Law of Torts, Law of Contract etc are the easy topics.
  • You need to take one major and one minor topic each day.
  • You need to cover fundamentals of laws, legal updates, recent case laws, legal GK and PYQs.
