M.Tech Design Engineering: Who should opt?

In order to become a top-notch engineer, the student must possess the following skills:

  • STEM Skills: STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. Engineering is a series of mathematical and logistical problems, therefore Knowledge of these four subjects is a prerequisite.
  • Ability to Work as a Team: Nobody completes an engineering project by oneself. A single project requires mind and expertise of individual professionals in order to achieve satisfying results. The experience of working cohesively in a team is then built upon throughout their working life.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Engineering is a profession saturated with problem-solving. Hence every task needs an analytical approach. The solution has to be found so that it fulfills all requirements with as little risk as possible. Experimentation and testing begin before work so budget is kept in check.
  • Attention to Detail: There is no doubt that engineering projects are extremely complex. There are humongous details that have to be addressed in the planning and construction processes. The learners of this course need to possess a high level of attention to detail to ensure error-free results.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: This is a field in which a lot of technical languages is used. When talking to clients and people unaware of technical language, running a conversation gets pretty hectic. Clear communication then becomes vital, also while working with other teams and personnel.
  • Willingness to Learn: If you are passionate about what you do then you always keep updated of industry changes and developments. Learning new techniques helps the students to perform their job to the best of their abilities.
  • Management and Leadership Skills: These include the knowledge about when to step in or back off; how to best make use of a team member’s strengths; how to align and discipline someone and so on. To become a top engineer, leadership is a required trait.

The college complete fee for the M.Tech program is around 2 lakh which is quite reasonable and we have to pay the fees in 4 installments and the packages offered by the company are also very good. The return on investment is good. The college also has a number of scholarship programs like the Government of Maharashtra Social Welfare Department – SC/SBC/OBC/VJ/DT/NT Scholarships, Government of Maharashtra’s Adivasi Vikas Prakalp – ST Scholarship, Pune Corporation – PMC Scholarships, Central Government – Central Minority Scholarship, Central Sector Scholarship, Maji Sainik Scholarship, Kishor VaigyanikProtsahan Yojana, Labour Scholarship, State Government – State Minority Scholarships, Shirke Trust, Pune – B.J. Shirke Scholarship, Leela Poonawalla Trust – Lila Poonawalla Scholarship. To know about the scholarship eligibility criteria one can visit the college website.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum of the college is up to date and matches all the international guidelines and standards. The curriculum helps us to understand the design concept very deeply and in detail. Placement Experience

The placement record of the college is 100%. The placement committee is very helpful and supportive. Each and every member of the placement committee is very experienced and have industrial exposure and they work as a guiding force for students during the placement drive. During our time almost 175+ companies visited the campus. Companies like Mercedes Benz, Accenture, TATA Technologies, TATA Motors, Thermax, Deloitte, Cognizant, Infosys, ITC, Maruti visited our campus during the placement drive. The highest package went up to 28 LPA and the average package during the placement was 9 LPA.

Internships Opportunities

The internship choice totally depends on the students. If a student wants to opt for an internship the placement committee provides the student with the list of the companies that are available for internship and guide and help the student to get into those companies for internship programs. The stipend for internship ranges from Rs 12000/- to Rs 34000/-. Students who are busy with their research work can continue with their research work they don't need to go for the internship program.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum of the course at this university is rather focused more on the practicality and less on the theoretical aspect. Students are given a chance to learn on their own as well however, a fixed examination structure is followed.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumnis of the college are too good to be true as they are always willing to help us despite being so busy in their lives. I am glad to have such seniors as they constantly motivate us to be the best possible version of ourselves.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is little bit expensive 1lakh 10 thousand per year for btech students and for Mtech fee structure is less. But we can expect placement so need to bother about fee structure. If u don't mind about fee everything is excellent

Admission

Graduate aptitude test in engineering exam. I wrote in 2018 and attended counselling. I got good rank in it. Good college for btech. And it is not so good for mtech. There will be certificate verification at the time of counselling

Ques. Which is better among M.Tech in industrial engineering from IIT (BHU) or M.Tech in design from IIT Bhubaneswar?

● Top Answer By Aditi Sinha on 30 Apr 22

Ans. You should choose according to your career plan. M.Tech in Design is a core field of engineering. This branch will be better if you plan on pursuing a Ph.D.  If you want jobs with good salary packages, Industrial Engineering from IIT BHU will be better. Scop of Industrial Engineering is pretty good in India. Students of this branch get job opportunities from sectors like delivery/logistic companies, eCommerce sites, textile industries, FMCG, and manufacturing. IIT BHU offers a median CTC of around INR 15.1 LPA to the students of this branch. Read more

Ques. Sir my gate score 630, ME general, any chance in IIT Bhubaneswar core mechanical department?

● Top Answer By Ankush Mehta on 14 Aug 20

Ans. Yes, there is a good chance that you will get a seat in IIT Bhubaneswar core mechanical department. In IIT Bhubaneswar, the selection is based on 70% weightage for the GATE score and 30% weightage for the performance in the Written Test and Interview. The department has 3 main branches i.e. Design, Thermal, and Manufacturing. The cutoff is most likely to be, Design>Thermal >Manufacturing in all IITs. As design seats get filled first, then thermal and then manufacturing. There are 18 seats for both Mechanical Systems Design and Thermal Science and Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar. The basic eligibility criteria are 60% marks in B. Tech./B. E. in Mechanical Engineering with a valid GATE score. Although cutoff changes every year for each branch but based on last year’s record, in 2020, the expected GATE cutoff for Mechanical System Design(GEN) is 595- 605 in IIT Bhubaneswar. So, yes there is a good possibility that you will make the cut.Read more
