Why study BSc Anesthesia Technology?

  • Anesthesia Technology is very practical and pragmatic. There is much more to just putting the patient to sleep. There are many subspecialities within the field that have their own importance. Majority of anaesthesia technologists work in operation theaters during the surgeries including cardiac, eyes, neuro or ENT. There is also a dedicated field for pediatric anesthesiologists.
  • The field of anaesthesia technologists seems limited on paper but in reality it deals with a wide range of cases. Patients of all ages and kinds of surgical ailments are taken care of by anaesthesiologists. Apart from surgical procedures, their expertise is also required in invasive radiology, gastrointestinal endoscopy, electrophysiology, and more.
  • Though the work of anaesthesia technologists is demanding, they are still able to maintain a work-life balance as compared to MBBS doctors who can rarely take time off due to emergency operations.
  • This field also provides an opportunity to help people. Being in a hospital is scary and stressful but anaesthesia technologists are positioned in a unique way to provide comfort to people through pain relief. This can be a very fulfilling experience for them.
  • The job opportunities and demand for anaesthesiologists has increased a lot and therefore, they are very well-paid in hospitals and nursing homes.
  • The training in anaesthesia technology is excellent as the technologist becomes aware of potent drugs, muscle relaxants, sedatives, pain killers, etc. from around the globe and also use them in case of emergencies.
  • The career progression of anaesthesiologists is great as they can either study further and explore the field of anaesthesia science or they can become an expert anaesthesiologist and form their own team.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose Bsc Anesthesia technology because I liked to work in operation theatres rather than in wards. 3 tests( internal assessments )are conducted every 3 month ( with the portions covered till the 3 months of duration)and 20 % from each is accounted for the final examination. A model exam is conducted at the end of 3 tests and 20 % from this is taken for the finals. The final examination accounts for 60% and the remaining 40% are considered from the above mentioned tests. A 75% mandatory attendance is required overall to appear in the final examination. And if it is less than 75% the student is detained for the particular subject in which he/she has low attendance % and is allowed to write the exams (3 tests + 1 model exam + finals ) with more than 75% attendance. Teaching is professionally done by the professors, JRs & SRs of Jipmer. Classes are taken in the Jipmer academic centre for the first year and for the next 2 years classes are taken by your departments we chose.

Campus Life

The overall experience in Jipmer is unbelievable as there is no such institute in the country to provide good infrastructure & health care facilities for the public including its own students ( us ). Spandan - is the major college festival or culturals held every year for 1 week during August/ September month. Interclass competitions within Jipmer students is also provided. Jipmer has a central library for students to enhance their ability to achieve their goals and is present with each &every kind of book for students. The classrooms & lecture halls are fully air conditioned with a 1st quality projector and monitor system for the easy accessibility to technology &teaching. Jipmer has a lot of cultural& sports activities and clubs for each genre one could think of. Jipmer has its own students association where the difficulties & mistreatment faced by the student is brought into notice which unites each and every one of us to be a part of a big family.

Campus Life

The campus of KLE University is really great. The greenery, the cafes, stalls, canteen, library, gym, swimming pool, badminton court, and other games area is just superb. It has the best campus in the whole city. You will find stores of Tea ToastCo, Swamy's, etc on the campus. The fresher's program, the parties, and the cultural fests are beyond amazing. There are many functions in colleges so be prepared for a lot of fun. The library is huge. It has a digital library too. There is a huge area for the library with a lot of greenery. You are going to love the library too. The classrooms are great. They are huge 200-500 seater classes, with good ventilation, space, greenery, and AC. There are many social groups and clubs. There is a General secretary and a team of Literature, culture, etc among the talented students. They conduct many activities and outings. Overall, it has the best campus with amazing activities.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee was 52,000 for semesters 1 and 2. From 3rd semester onwards, the fees were reduced to 51,000. The fees were not hiked and there are facilities for student loans. The cost to study is minimal. If you are not a locality, you can stay in a hostel, that doesn't cost much. The overall cost to study was not overpriced. Students from a few castes got scholarships and financial assistance. We did not get any scholarship from the college for merit. I too was a merit student but I didn't get any stipend or scholarship. There is no placement for this course. If you have influence in some other hospitals you can get in there immediately after the completion of the course. Since there is no stipend or placement, I would not recommend this college for anybody as there is a lot of struggling after the course to find jobs.

Admission

Coming from a family of Anesthesiologist, studying Anesthesia technology was a common choice. I got to know about Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences from one of my relatives who lived in Surat itself. After much research and consulting with my parents I decided to apply here. I filled in the application form which was available online and traveled to Surat to sit for the examination and the interview which went by quite well.

Course Curriculum Overview

I saw the course curriculum before my admission itself and found it to be quite good. Since this was a bachelors course and I did not know what exactly to expect I showed the details to my parents who were quite happy with the structure. I have been here for an year now and the examinations are not too hard and you could do quite well if you study and pay attention to the classes.
