Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Hons.) in Urdu is a three year Under Graduate (UG) program in Urdu language offered by various colleges and universities across the country. Students who have passed their class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized state or central board can make an application for the course provided that they satisfy other eligibility criteria listed by the respective college or university.

The course is divided into six semesters distributed over a span of 3 years. Each year comprises of two semesters with End Semester Exam (ESE) being conducted at the end of each semester. In order to pass the year and advance to next year of the UG program students have to pass in both the semester exams (Individually).

Colleges list out minimum qualifying percentage (In board exams) required for admission and candidates who satisfy the minimum cut-off percentage criteria for admission can make an application for admission to the course.

BA (Hons) Urdu: What is it about?

The 3-year graduation program in Urdu focuses on providing an overall outlook of this Modern Indian language to the students through the vast coverage of its syllabus. The study of Sanskrit is divided into following parts

  • Poetry: This involves the study of couplets and dialects from the famous Urdu poets and philosophers who contributed to the beauty of this language. The main idea behind teaching poetry is to make the students aware about the artistic style and usage of the language.
  • Literature: It is analogous to the fiction or literature part in English (or any other language). It involves the study of stories, novels, and fiction written by famous authors in the given language. It focuses on the literary aspect of the Urdu language.
  • Grammar: Grammar as in any other language plays a role of enhancing or enriching the experience of learning the language. It focuses on making the students understand basic rules and aspects that one should follow while speaking or writing the language. It involves the study of Tenses, Punctuation, Noun, and Pronouns etc. as used in the Urdu language.
  • History: This area of study involves the knowledge and information in regards to the origin and development of the Urdu language. Students would be taught about the genesis of the language write from its advent in India to the spread of its influence across the globe. Understanding of the modern face of the language and its usage in the contemporary times requires a good knowledge in regards to the history of language and hence students are taught about it.

The syllabus of the course is divided in such a manner that a student pursuing the course learns these various parts of the language in a sequential manner under the semester-wise division of the course curriculum.

BA (Hons) Urdu: Admission Process

The admission process for this course involves a merit-based selection procedure rather than a common entrance test based admission process (as seen across various Universities and colleges in the country). For more clarification and ease of understanding, we have dealt with the process of admission for this course in a more detailed manner under the below-mentioned points.

  • Some Universities/Colleges conduct a common entrance test for admission into BA (Hons.) courses hence students would have to make an application for such exams.
  • Students have to qualify these exams (for which they should be eligible to appear) in order to get admission in the course.
  • After the conduct of the test, a merit list of finally qualified candidates is prepared and candidates are invited for counselling cum admission process by the respective university or college.
  • After admission process, final allotment of seats to the candidate takes place and the candidate is asked to deposit the fee for the course and register for the respective academic year.

However, in most of the colleges, the admission process would be a straight forward task which would involves college displaying cut-off for the course two to three times (or more till the seats are filled) and candidates satisfying the cut-off percentage visiting the college and getting admissions.

BA (Hons) Urdu: Eligibility

Candidate must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized state board or central board with at least 55% (45% to 50% for reserved category candidates) marks.

  • Candidate shall not be having any backlog or compartment in any of the subject/Subjects at plus two or equivalent level that is yet to be cleared at the time of taking admissions.
  • Apart from the above mentioned eligibility criteria’s various colleges and institutes may have their own additional criteria’s which the students would have to satisfy in order to take admission.
  • In case of reserved category students, they would have to present their reservation certificates issued by the competent authorities in order to avail the benefits applicable for them.

Campus Life

my experience got involved in like so many clubs like the first club I joined in my first year. It was the past. There was special kind of fashion club. They offer so many kind of events they organise event. They so many people parts paid on this They love that because the facilities was so technical and the class, also the let's talk about the college. The classroom was really good and the teachers was using modern technique to teach student and overall the activities of on campus was really nice. They offer and cc and there was so many lot of things.

The teaching method was so good and the way teachers help everyone and they tried to solve every query and my personal experience was really good with the teachers. They use modern technique to teach student and I have multiple times asked for one question and they didn't deny me, and they always try to help me. The fee structure depends upon course type. In my course, the admission fee is Rs 636 per year excluding University Registration and Enrollment fee. There are many scholarships program in this college. SVMCM, Aikya Shree, etc. scholarships are available for the students of this College.

The Campus of my college is very large and clean. The environment of the Campus is very hygienic. There are two common rooms in the college, one for girls and the other for boys. There is a Library in my college. Every type of book is there in the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

Urdu (Hons.) Is quite an interesting course and I liked it from the very beginning I want to be a professor so this is one of the reasons why I opted for this course. Faculty members are very kind and helpful. All faculty members are Ph.D. in their field and they teach in a very good manner. Term exams are held during the due period and it's not too hard to pass the exam.

Campus Life

There are a lot of societies, in college. Many extracurricular activities are held on campus. Every course material is always available in Library. Classrooms have ACs, fans, etc. Water facility is available, canteen facilities are also available.
