Admission:

There is an entrance exam that is held in the month of February. The forms are out in late November. For my course i.e. B.F.Tech, the admission process is simple as the admission is given on the basis of the rankings achieved by students in the entrance exams. For the B.Des course, there are a few exams including CAT, GAT, and situation tests. During admission counselling, the priority is given to the students rank wise to chose the course and campus. Counselling is done in mane campuses, almost of the campuses so the students don't get to rush to one place and can easily chose their course and campus reaching their nearest NIFT campus available. College asks a set of documents that needs to b carried by students at the time of counselling. Carrying each documents is mandatory as missing even one document can create problems. Campus also provides 2nd and 3rd round of counselling for students seeking for the vacant seats if any. The students needs to register for the further cousellings paying a very small amount.

College Events:

Many events are celebrated in college that entertains the students from their hectic college schedule. Students from societies made in college hold the events. Students come together and enjoy to make them successful. Here are a few major events that are held in college. Freshers Dussehra Mela Inter-Departmental Volleyball Tournament Amphi Cricket League Futsal Halloween Celebration Onam Durga Pujo Lohri Spic Macay Spectrum(Annual Festival) NIFT Collective Etc.

Admission:

There's an entrance exam of NIFT. Basically there's two different exams for design and technology. I gave the technology one because I wanted to pursue fashion technology. My rank was 330 and I got kangra. I had many other choices like Hyderabad, Patna, Jodhpur etc. Since I'm a mountain child I choose kangra. Then afterwards counselling held on the basis on the ranks in which you have to submit all your documents along with the first semester's fee. Once you got all your documents verified, you then have to lock the center and that's how I got the admission.

Faculty:

In terms of the faculty, NIFT kangra's DFT (Department of Fashion Technology) dept. is relatively good. They all are alumni of NIFT and niift. They do have a great experience of teaching as well as the apparel industry. Nift kangra offers five courses i.e. Fashion designing, Fashion Technology, Fashion communication, Accessory designing, Textile designing. Accessory design faculty is not very good but other design and technology is good.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The overall course structure is evenly distributed keeping in mind the capability of various kinds of students that take admission. The first year of academics is an general overall course where students of all the departments study almost the exact same courses and subjects for and general overall knowledge. After that from the 2nd year the students are allotted to their respective chosen departments for specialized studies. From 2nd year on proper training and subjects pertaining to the specialization is taught. Expert lectures are also held for better knowledge. Specialized people from the industry are also called to teach how exactly the industry works. From 3rd year on the curriculum demands the students to go out and do internships in various companies so that the industrial knowledge gets better understanding. The 4th year is divided in two halves in which the first half is spent in college learning the crucial subjects and the rest half in spent in Graduation projects.

Internships Opportunities:

College demands the students to go on to minimum three internships before they graduate. College helps in getting the internships but college itself doesn't provide and internship. One internship happens at the end of 2nd year just before 3rd year starts which spans for 15 days. The next internship happens at the end of 3rd year before 4th year begins and this internship spans from a duration of 8-14 weeks depending on the department you are in. Finally the Graduation project happens which is for 5 months and is very similar to internships but with a separate project for each student.

Admission:

The admission process for technology and design are a different. Both have a couple of papers to be cleared, after which the technology ranking is out but the design aspirants have to go through the situation round and PI. After which in June everyone, according to their rankings are invited to Delhi for counselling and offered centres according to their ranks and preferences.

Exam Structure:

Exams were 4 times a year, most of which was jury /project based leaving only 3-4 theory papers every semester. There are regular assignments throughout the year which are pre-planned and the dates are mentioned in the year calendar. The marks are a combination of your performance in these assignments and presentations combined with your mid semester and end semester scores.

Placement Experience:

NIFT provides a structured placement program that are organised at various centres in a span of month where students take their portfolio and get interviewed by companies of their choices. Companies that come for placement are of various scale, While biggest garment companies such a Madura and Arvind come in, some small companies from places like tirupur also come in and offer great job profiles to students. Our placement in 2007 all my classmates were placed and an average package was 3.5L was offered that was a good package at that time.

Admission:

NIFT entrance test during my time in 2003 had 3 levels of selection process. First phase has two papers that includes General aptitude Test & Creative ability test.
