IISER Mohali Review of 2nd year Under-graduate

Their are a total about 200 faculty memebers from all departments and around 1500 students overall which leads to a F-S ratio of 1:7.5, hence one faculty per 8 students. The faculty is really approachable and all professors are available on mail. The physics department is really wonderful and a lot of research happens in physics department apart from biology, math chem. Overall all departments are good at the work they do. Their are overall 2 mid sems and an end sem in one semester and along with it quizes and assignments. they are based on syllabus covered and overall they are moderate to hard. The course curriculum is relevent with progress upward from bottom to top as courses proceed along with minor options once major years start.

Life at IISER M: A hitchhiker's guide

Faculty student ratio depends on department, and while it is decent in Physics and Maths, it is not quite so in Chemistry and Biology because of the sheer size of the number of students in the departments. This is expected to decrease with the introduction of a cap in number of students choosing a major in their 2nd year. The Faculty is very good in terms of research but honestly in teaching they can be quite bad at times except for a few exceptions of course. I won't name them for privacy concerns (it's better you get to know them when you come here ;) ). We have 3 exams in a semester: 2 midsems and 1 endsem, and how hard they can be depends on the faculty taking the course. In general, any course and it's pace/how good grading is depends completely on the faculty. The course curriculum can feel quite heavy at times, but it is not significantly different compared to other colleges. The main thing about IISER is the exposure to academia it provides, which is unparalleled in almost any other college. You get time in summer and winter simply to internships which are very much encouraged. Number of failures in exams depends on relative grading and final Grade Finalization Meeting (but again honestly, don't depend on it).

IISER mohali glimpses

Course structure for every course is mentioned in the institute website. First years will have all subjects. Second years have premajors where they can choose 2 subjects amd related electives. Majors starts from 3rd year. Thesis is on 5th year. Marking schemes depends on the instructor. He/she will mention it on the first class. 2 midsems and 1 end sem wilp be conducted.

Student life at IISER Mohali

There are around 200 faculty members in the institute. Well, the students in each year of BS-MS dual degree program are around 260-270 approx. The faculty to student relationship is generally nice, but it depends on the nature of both. According to my personal experience, all the faculties I met have been very nice and supportive. As for the exams, we have mid semester 1 exams, mid semester 2 exams and end semester exams, except for the first semester only when there are only 1 mid semester exams. The exams are usually easy, depends if you've studied or not and sometimes also on the professor's mood when they are making the question paper. The course curriculum is very good, and it has relative grading, in which the grades are given according to the marks of the students in that course, i.e., the grade boundaries are not fixed, they are relative to students' marks.

An Institute of excellence in Science

Faculty to student ratio is 1:70. The faculty is very helpful and skilled they help you in all aspects of research. They teach us scientific theorems in a lucid manner. They are easy to approach. One can ask them for summer or winter projects.

Most of the professors. Most of them are great, and helps a lot. Can talk to them anytime if required.

The professors here are great (most of them). PhDs from other parts of the world. They are knowledgeable and resouceful when it comes to prpblems let it be academic or non academic. We can interact with them outside the class for any queries.

Overview of IISER Mohali

We get good research environment and curiosity is encouraged by professors and peers.
The professor here are quite good at there field and teaching, except for a few exceptions.

The faculty here are quite good at there work, be it research or teaching. Interaction with the professors regarding any kind of problems are always welcomed. The teaching method varies from professor to professor but on average it's quite good. Professors do help in there free times or office hours during any problem and all kind of questions are entertained. They are quite friendly with the students.

The proffesor of the institute are very friendly and engaging. They meet abd talk with us even after official time and always willing to help

IISER Mohali has one the best faculty in India. There are 97 faculty memeber from 6 different departments. and around 977 students, so the faculty to student ratio is 10 and one of the most significant among research institutes. Most of the proffesor has history of researching in internationally recognised lab or university around the globe. We have faculty of particle physicist from CERN to shanti swarup bhatnagar prize winner. All of the proffesors are well known faces of the leading research in not only India but world. The proffesors are famous to be very interactive and friendly here, they allow us to visit their lab and office more than official hours and interact very frequently. They guide us in understanding what;s right for our future research and work.

IISER Mohali Review through the lens of a student who finished his first year

The faculty is very much effective and good, all have really good research background and are very helpful and approachable. Alot of proffs have an open door policy for students and can boost your academic career pretty well. I can interact with teachers any time I want, and there are alot of teachers suited for different fields of academia
