Burdwan University, Directorate of Distance Education provides distance learning courses under MBA, B.Ed., M.Sc., M.A. and M.Com. programs. There are a total 9 subjects available as specializations under the PG curriculum while MBA marks as the most applied to course. All are degree courses offered under the distance learning curriculum of the university. The admission process for all courses goes in the following manner.

Admission for all courses begins with registration on the official website of the University.
B.Ed. students have to produce NCTE recognised teacher education program certificates to be eligible.
The MBA Admissions committee required students to give the CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT exam or the University’s entrance exam for admission.
GD and PI are a crucial part of the admission process of MBA.
Admission to all the PG courses is completely merit based.

Burdwan University was established in 1994 as the first distance learning institution in West Bengal. The Distance Education Council (DEC) led the inauguration of this university. Today it offers significant programs like PG, MBA and B.Ed.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates who have completed the NCTE recognized Teacher Education program are eligible for admission.
Applicants must be trained in-service teachers in elementary education to be eligible.
Having a graduate degree is mandatory for all applying students in the course.

Selection Criteria

The selection of the student in B.ed is based on his/her performance in graduation and a minimum of 50% aggregate is a must for all.

Eligibility criteria

A minimum 2nd class Hons. (Regular or Special) graduate in the relevant subject having pursued the course in the 10+2+3 pattern from any recognized University, or
A pass graduate in the 10+2+3 pattern having offered the relevant subject as a combination / elective one (of not less than 300 marks at the degree stage) securing at least 30% marks in it, or,
B.Sc, / B.Com. / B.A. Pass Graduates who subsequently passed Special B.A. (of not less than 300 marks in the relevant subject) securing at least 30% marks in it, or
A pass graduate in the 10+2+2 / 10+1+3 / 11+3 pattern for students who subsequently passed 1 year Bridge Course in the relevant subject (of not less than 300 marks at the degree level) and thus became equivalent to a pass graduate of 10+2+3 pattern securing at least 40% marks in it, or
A minimum 2nd Class Hons. (Regular or Special) graduate in Mathematics having pursued the course in the 10+2+3 pattern from any recognized University
A minimum 2nd class Hons. (Regular or special) graduate in Mathematics having pursued the course of the old 11+3 pattern, or

M.Com:

M.Sc Computer Science

B.Sc. (Hons.) in Computer Science/ Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)/ B.E. or equivalent/ B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics / Statistics / Electronics / Physics / Chemistry with Computer Science as one of the combination subject.

Note: Candidates having a MA in “Islamic History and Culture” or “Ancient History and Culture” from any University are not entitled to do MA History.

Selection Criteria

Selection of the student in PG courses is based on merit and the admissions board only looks at the student’s previous performance for finalising selection.

Burdwan University has an MBA course available under the DDE section. It is also one of the most popular courses at the distance education university along with maximum applicants pouring in each year.

Eligibility criteria

All applying candidates must have valid CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT scores to be eligible for admission.
Any candidate who hasn’t given any of the above exams, has to sit for the entrance exam conducted by the University.
Graduate degree is mandatory for all candidates to have.

Selection Criteria

Selection is first done on the basis of CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT scores or the scores in the entrance exam by the university.
Qualifying candidates are moved to the next stage which is the Group Discussion and Personal Interview stage.
Final selection is based on a cumulative result of GD and PI.

How to apply to Burdwan University?

All applying candidates, irrespective of course, must fill in the admission form available on the university’s website as the first step.
Application ID is generated for each student once the application form has been filled in.
Now, applicants need to re-login and pay the 200/- registration fee through an online payment method.
Application form and payment receipt both have to be printed for future use.

Following documents have to be presented later on at the DDE Administrative office, if selected.

FAQs

Ques. Is there a loan facility available for payment of course fees?

Ans. Yes, students have an option of paying through an instalment method. Once all the required documents are submitted, within the few days the loan application is passed. In case of any doubts, one may contact college administration.

Ques. What is the examination pattern for distance learning students?

Ans. The complete curriculum is divided into odd and even semester and college conducts semester examinations every year. The mid-term evaluation is done on the basis of assignments and projects assigned to the students. The performance in both semester examinations and mid-term evaluation decided the promotion of a student in successive years.

Ques. Are results for all courses released at the same time?

Ans. The results for all courses except B.Ed. are out on a semester basis but for the B.Ed. course an yearly result curriculum is followed. The official website is where all old results and new updates can be found.

Ques. Do I need to visit the University before final admission?

Ans. Only after final selection has been done by the admission committee for all courses, the student has to visit the DDE Administrative office to submit all required documents. Rest can be done online.

Ques. Can ex-University students apply for PG courses?

Ans. Yes, old students of the University can apply for PG courses available under DDE given they submit the required documents that state that the student was earlier admitted to BU.
