NEIGRIHMS MS Radio Diagnosis FAQs
Ques. Why is the NEET PG rank required for MS Radio Diagnosis at NEIGRIHMS so high compared to other specialties?
Ans. Radiodiagnosis is consistently the most competitive PG specialty across India due to its excellent work-life balance, high earning potential, and growing demand for radiologists. At NEIGRIHMS specifically, the closing rank for the General category in Round 1 was 297 in 2025 and 447 in 2024, making it the most competitive seat at the institute. With only 2 total seats and extremely high national demand for Radiodiagnosis, candidates need a top-300 NEET PG rank to have a realistic chance at this seat through the AIQ route.
Ques. Is the MS Radio Diagnosis seat at NEIGRIHMS available to candidates from outside the North East region?
Ans. Yes, but only through the All India Quota (AIQ) route. Out of the 2 total seats, 1 seat falls under the 50% All India Quota, filled through MCC NEET PG counselling and open to any Indian national. The remaining 1 seat is under the Open North East category (of which a portion is reserved for NEIGRIHMS MBBS alumni). Candidates from outside the NE region cannot apply for the Open NE or NEIGRIHMS quota seats and can only compete for the 1 AIQ seat.
Ques. What imaging equipment and facilities are available for Radiodiagnosis training at NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. NEIGRIHMS, as the apex referral hospital for the North Eastern region, has a well-equipped Radiodiagnosis department with digital X-ray, ultrasound and colour Doppler, CT scan, MRI, fluoroscopy, and interventional radiology facilities. The department handles a wide variety of cases referred from across the 8 NE states, providing diverse diagnostic exposure. The institute also has a cancer centre, which adds oncological imaging to the training experience.
Ques. What is the stipend received by MS Radio Diagnosis Junior Residents at NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. All Junior Residents (PG) at NEIGRIHMS receive a monthly stipend with a basic pay of Rs. 56,100/- per month, along with applicable allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA) and City Compensatory Allowance (CCA). Given the very low tuition and hostel fees, PG students at NEIGRIHMS are in a financially comfortable position. The combination of a high stipend and minimal fees makes this one of the most financially attractive Radiodiagnosis PG programmes in the country.
Ques. Are there any service bonds after completing MS Radio Diagnosis from NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. No. As a central government institute, NEIGRIHMS does not impose any state-level service bonds on its PG graduates. After completing the MS Radio Diagnosis degree, graduates are free to practice anywhere in India, join private hospitals, or pursue fellowship/super-specialty training without any mandatory service obligation. This is a significant advantage over state government medical colleges.
Ques. What happens if a student wants to leave the MS Radio Diagnosis programme midway at NEIGRIHMS?
Ans. Leaving the programme midway attracts significant financial penalties as per the bond signed at the time of admission. If a student leaves before completing 1 year, they must pay Rs. 10 lakh to NEIGRIHMS. If they leave during the 2nd year, the penalty is Rs. 15 lakh, and if they leave during the 3rd year without completing the course, the penalty is Rs. 20 lakh. Additionally, original certificates are retained by the institute and are returned only after the bond amount and an additional Rs. 50,000 are deposited. These conditions are strictly enforced, so candidates should be fully committed before joining.
