Admission:

The admission process was good and pretty smooth. The Entrance exam they consider for MBA is CAT. and the cut-off is 80 percentile. any graduation course is eligible. the website for all the details is www.bhuonline.com and 50% of seats are reserved for B.H.U employees and the rest are according to the standard reservation system. The good exam pattern consists of 3 sessionals and 1 external examination. they can be more technologically advanced with their admission process. their hostel allocation process is very hectic.

Admission:

60% above in graduation and you are eligible for the course. For MBA and MBA-IB program CAT entrance marks are taken into account. A collective cut off is generally taken rather than section cut off. After clearing the basic cut off students are called for GD-PI(offline). For any such admission related dates regularly check the official website of BHU. The admission process was very smooth, the students themselves manage the whole process, that is something which distinguishes BHU from other college. This showcases a better practical use of mangement skills and also you can ask the student studying there for any query related to the course. Without a doubt BHU does gives a superb ROI.

The cutoff remains around the 80-85 percentile for General Category along with reservations for other categories. Admission was through CAT score, followed by Group Discussions(GD) and Personal Interview (PI). The total aggregate of CAT score, GD, and PI was considered and the merit list was made for the final admission. In the year 2020, 85+ percentile was the cutoff for final admission in the general category, and for OBC it was 80 percentile. I was offered admission to some of the Baby IIMs also. But I chose BHU because of the ROI ( Return on Investment) it gives. IM-BHU has very less fees as compared to other colleges and also offers very good placements. That's why it has a tough competition. BHU is also the Rank 3 University all over India. It gives good exposure.

Admission:

The college comes under the widely renowned Banaras Hindu University, it holds a great historical as well as a prestigious presence in our country, this was one of the very first reasons for applying to this institution. There are generally several quotas in the admission procedure- like General, OBC, SC/ST, EWS, and others. The admission criteria for the program is quite simple, you just have to attain a minimum of 55% marks in your graduation along with a good CAT score for applying here. The admission process includes filling the form which is uploaded on the Banaras Hindu University portal after the CAT exams. After filling the form with all the valid and relevant information you are called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. Once all the procedure is completed for all the candidates, the University portal updates the selected list accordingly. Keep in mind that you have to keep a regular check on your admission portal so that you don't miss out on anything.

Which place is better for an MBA, NIT Trichy or BHU?

Tapan KumarB.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2009)

Having known some people studying in both these institutes, I can say that BHU is a better university than NIT Trichy.

NIT Trichy considers the CAT score to select the candidates. Here, the students from different states enjoy the 50% quota for MBA admission. NITs are engineering-oriented and you might have less exposure in terms of management studies.

IM (FMS) Banaras Hindu University also enrolls students with a good CAT score. Combined merit is formed for the students of the MBA and MBA (IB) program. The merit includes:-

  • Written Test (CAT Conducted by IIM) - 50%
  • Academic Records - 20%
  • Group Discussion and Interview (Conducted by FMS BHU) - 30%

BHU’s major recruiters include -Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy, Federal Bank, Ansal API, IDBI Bank, Pantaloons, etc.

Categories MBA at NIT Trichy MBA at BHU
Course Fee 2.89 lakhs 1.5 lakhs
Highest CTC 12 LPA 12-16 LPA
Average CTC 8 LPA 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies HSBC, American Express, ITC, Asian Paints, etc. Aditya Birla, Wipro, IDBI Bank, Reliance, etc.

A total number of 38 companies visited and a total of 119 students were placed from campus. Thus, FMS BHU is quite prominent compared to NIT Trichy.

Which is better, IMI Bhubaneswar or FMS, BHU?

Janki KapurMBA from Great Lakes Institute of Management (2018)

My brother has studied at IMI Bhubaneswar and it's the best because of its brand value. It is a new and upcoming institute with IMI Delhi’s reputation and brand value.

The following points explain a brief overview of the institutes:

  • If you compare the fees, FMS BHU will be the winner by a good margin.
  • When it comes to the average placement data, you'll find that it is the same as that of CAT cutoffs.
  • The class profile will be as good due to rigorous entrance processes and scores. You can find a better crowd at IMI because it might have more polished candidates.

Now, the difference to be highlighted in the degree is that FMS BHU will give you an MBA degree whereas, IMI will give you a PGDM degree; although this is not a huge difference you might choose an MBA over a PGDM program.

So, finally, the choice lies with you because both institutes are quite similar in academics, facilities, and opportunities. It will definitely not create a huge impact if you choose one over the other.

Is FMS BHU good for Finance?

Kalyani SharmaMBA from Faculty of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University

Before we get into a college, we normally do prior research on various factors that we require in the desired course. Generally, it is about placements, packages, and corporate exposure. And, if you are assuming to find all of that in FMS BHU, you are wrong!

But then, if you are looking for a place with some spiritual retreat and carrying a degree just for the sake of carrying one without bringing out any benefit- FMS BHU would welcome you with open arms!

Some people beg to differ- which I am assuming is because they must have been placed in good company. But then, if you have prior work experience, carry a strong and valuable work ethic with a good educational convent background, FMS BHU should not be considered.

FMS BHU is ranked similar to what a mediocre MBA college is. Save your time by not going for this. Not choosing FMS BHU can save your career from being wasted. Because it's better to test your luck in some betting app than choosing this institute as your place to study.

The profiles that the companies show up are in the name of sales, but you would beg to differ when you observe companies like Berger Paints, Kent RO, Gyan Dairy, etc. show up. They offer an average package of 2.4-5 LPA.

The batch of my friends is facing this issue as they have no other option left. All in all, I would not recommend FMS BHU at all.

How is the placement in FMS BHU?

Sandip Pal
Rajashree NeogiUniversal Business School, Karjat; MBA + PGDM

Placements for FMS BHU are quite impressive. It added one of the prominent financial institutions of India i.e. Reserve Bank of India in its recruitment list in the recent past.

Moreover, many students got a chance to get recruited in the top international company and organizations including research & consulting firms such as iCRM.

  • The job profiles offered were diverse, i.e. encompassing Corporate Finance, Equity Research, Investment Banking, Marketing, Sales and Distribution, Supply Chain Management, Business Consulting, IT consulting, Agri-Business, Industrial Relations, and Corporate HR.
  • Multiple top-notch recruiters came on campus as, Infosys, Coal India, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Pantaloon, Visa Steel, FINO, Ansal API to name a few. According to the 2020 placement highlights the highest CTC offered was 18 LPA.

So, from the above information, you should get a clear idea about the placement of FMS BHU.

Does FMS BHU take sectional cutoff?

Ritika BeraMBA Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University (2019)

No, FMS - BHU does not consider sectional cut-offs. Usually, the cut-off of the general category ranges from 82 to 85 percentile. This is the required criteria for any candidate to receive a GD-PI call.

However, the cut off required is as mentioned below,

Courses

General (Criteria)

MBA Agribusiness

85

MBA International Business

85

IMS BHU (which technically was known as FMS earlier) generally accepts CAT score for admission purposes. If you are considering section-wise, then 80 percentile or above can increase your chances of selection after the GD or the interview session.

Can you share the FMS BHU GD PI experience in detail?

Debdeep Majumder
Saumita GhoseM.M.S from Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (2019)

Two years back my brother performed in the GD and cleared the PI round. Here is his experience in brief.

GD:

  • In the GD, the topic was “ Democracy benefits only the people with power “
  • At that moment there were about 10 other people including my brother, they all had 1 minute to think on the topic, followed by discussion and summarise in points.
  • Everyone had different points to talk about. After the discussion, 1 min for summarizing was given to each individual.

PI:

  • PI Started with the extempore.
  • There was a panel of 5 members. The first question they asked my brother was the general intro about himself.
  • After the introduction, one of the panel members starts off with the extempore topic. Extempore Topic: In a rat race even if you win you are only a rat.

In the PI round, they ask multiple other questions like hobbies, movie interests, job profile and all, mostly general questions.

CUET-PG is required for postgraduate admissions at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), including most courses you’d apply to through the Institute of Management Studies (IMS-BHU). For PG programmes at BHU, candidates must appear in the Common University Entrance Test-PG (CUET-PG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and then apply through BHU’s Combined Allotment Program (CAP-PG) for seat allocation.
