MDI, Gurgaon - a Solid 4 Star B-School

Likes

Food is very tasty and provided at proper times. It's freshly prepared and hygienic too and snacks are also provided.
Very close to the airport, around 20mins drive.
All sorts of e-commerce and quick commerce allowed and available.

Dislikes

Rigour is okay, but feels quite forced at not only MDI, but all B-schools. It's also a very bad culture where seniors urge students to not take proper rest/sleep. We must collectively work to end this disgusting cycle.
Lack of stationery shops/lackluster grocery store within the campus.
Snacks/food stalls have overpriced food stuffs.

Admission:

Since my CAT percentile was quite less, 96, and being from a top NIT, I wanted to get into a B-School which could complement my NIT tag, while my fream was a tier - 1 college, my percentile shut all doors. Hence, with an interest in fin, I joined the best new IIM for Fin - IIM Tiruchirappalli. There I found the batch size to have increased by about more than 30% to 522. Given the job market, the situation was frightening and I wanted to leave, MDI gave me that chance. The people here are from every spectrum: 94 to 99.7 percentilers, all can be found here. The batch size is also fine and the placements are better.

Placement support - provided for both summer placements and final placements and the college attracts renowned recruiters

Dislikes

Placement Committee - Biased towards internal members
Courses offered - Options for electives on the basis of specialisation are quite less for a Tier 1 college

Admission:

I chose MDI Gurgaon over XLRI Delhi, IIM Shillong, new and baby IIMS, NITIE - PGDSM. The reason for choosing MDI was its proximity to my hometown, Tier 1 status. I was rejected from IIM ABCLKI and FMS - Delhi mostly on the basis of my undergrad scores and a CAT percentile which was not high enough. The admission process was an interview shortlist on the basis of profile and CAT score, followed by an interview and the release of a merit list. The admission process was clear and hassle free and all updates were communicated timely.

All About MDI

Likes

The canteen, college life, sharma ji and jha ji parathe, alot of events.
Fests, college events, professors, the instructure is also beautiful
The course curriculum is very relevant and the placements are also good

Dislikes

1.5 hours of class because the attention span is very less for humans
Too much construction is being done right now spoiling the scenic beauty
Induction process is very tough so that could be improved

Admission:

I gave Cat exam and that year the pattern was slightly changes considering varc. I gave the exam in the first slot and secured 93.53%ile. Was lucky enough to get MDI's call and for MDI specifically there was no GD process. There was only one PI and the cut off was 91%ile that year. My interview was purely based on my understanding of business. I had to answer opinionated questions. This year they had a gdpi and offline interviews were conducted. During my time online interviews were conducted and the process was very smooth. I think no improvements were required as they made it convenient for the panelist as well as the students because then they didn't have to travel so far to the campus without accommodation.

A sea of opportunities MDI Gurgaon

Likes

I liked the curriculum of my program. Also the hostel are decent.
Many big brands come to campus for final placement.
Faculty is experienced and they hold a good amount of knowledge about the course they are teaching.

Dislikes

The life is very fast here you can't get into depth of a subjects here.
Attendance policy is very strict. Below 80% attendance in class students get grade docks
The college gym is not well equipped with machines. Machine operated here are pretty old.

Admission:

At least 50% marks in 10th and 12th Std, A minimum 3 years bachelor's degree. Applicant must clear cat exam with minimum 75 percentile in each section. Work experience is preferred over fresh graduates.

Admission:

You need to appear in the CAT exam. Any percentile over 90%ile with a sectional of 70 70 70 cleared will fetch you a call from MDI Gurgaon. However, to convert core, 96+ is a safe score for non-engg and 98.5+ for GEM. After you get a shortlist, you'll have to appear and fill out a form which MDI-G will send and you can edit your details there. Further, you'll get a PI date. Results will be announced sometime in May.

Admission is through the CAT exam, you need to be an undergraduate with a minimum of 50 %. There is no reservation available, after clearing CAT you need to appear for GD/PI process and a computed score is released based on your performance and you are admitted within a certain cutoff.

UNVEILING THE LIFE AT MDI GURGAON

Likes

The course is well designed, with ample of resources in the library and labs to enrich oneself.
The campus is a beautiful place with lots of facilities to play different sports and also to spend idle time
The location of the college is at the center of the city which makes commuting to any part very easy

Dislikes

The class hours are too long considering they go over 90 minutes with a strict attendance policy
The facilities in the old hostels need to be improved considering the fees paid
Although the food of the mess is good and there are canteens in the campus, there needs to be present more options to eat for student considering when it comes to eating healthy food.

Admission:

A candidate must appear for CAT or GMAT to get admitted to MDI, Gurgaon. The average batch percentile in cats stays around 98 each year, although there are exceptions. A candidate must have a minimum of 50% in graduation and 12th to be eligible for admission. It is after that the CAT percentile along with the specific criteria of the institution for the year determines whether a candidate will receive a call or not for an interview. The application form can be found on the website of the institution, and the admission process is smooth, as all the information is relayed from time to time through mail, either by the college office or the student-run admission committee. The college doesn't have any reservation policy.

It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, XLRI, and MDI with less than 60% in 12th. But it’s achievable. FMS assigns 10% weight to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.

So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.

No, you can not get MDI Gurgaon MBA/ PGDM with only 80 percentile in CAT (Common Admission Test). The required cutoff percentile is 95 for MBA in MDI Gurgaon.
