MDI Gurgaon PGDM Selection Criteria 2026

MDI Gurgaon selection happens in two stages. Stage 1 shortlisting uses a composite score of CAT performance, academic record, work experience, and diversity. Stage 2 is the GD-PI-WAT-BAT round held in February to April at multiple centres.

Stage 1 Shortlist Composite Score: CAT Score (70%) plus Academics (15%: 10th 5%, 12th 5%, Graduation 5%) plus Work Experience (10%) plus Diversity (5%: Academic 2.5%, Gender 2.5%).

Stage 2 Final Selection Weightage: CAT Score (35%) plus Personal Interview (20%) plus Group Discussion (10%) plus Written Analysis Task (5%) plus Behavioural Assessment Test (5%) plus Work Experience (10%) plus Graduation marks (5%) plus Diversity and Sports together (10%).

  • CAT cutoff for shortlisting is 93 to 95 percentile for the General category.
  • MDI introduced a Behavioural Assessment Test (BAT) in 2026 to evaluate personality traits and decision-making.
  • GD-PI centres are available in Bengaluru, Gurugram, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
  • Candidates shortlisted are 4 to 5 times the available intake.

As per the Reddit Discussion, MDI Gurgaon places significant emphasis on work experience during the PI stage even for freshers. Candidates who highlight leadership and academic achievement tend to score well in the group exercise and interview rounds.

Key Insight: MDI dropped Class 10 and Class 12 marks from the Stage 2 final selection in 2026. Academics now carry weight only at Stage 1 shortlisting. A strong PI performance can compensate for moderate academic scores at the final stage.

How expensive is it to get management quota seats at the IMT in Ghaziabad the IMI in Delhi and the MDI in Gurgaon for an MBA

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Management quota seats are seats at colleges in India that are set aside for members of the management, trust, clergy, and VIPs. According to the institution, there are between 5 and 10% of seats available. The college and trust have complete discretion over who gets to sit in these seats. The existence of management quota seats in institutes like IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, and MDI Gurgaon is not well known. For students who are unable to get admission on their own through the entrance tests, this opportunity is available. The fees for these seats are not disclosed by the institutes on any platform. For admission to the management quota seat, you have to contact these colleges at the phone numbers provided on their websites. You first have to check your eligibility and then have to pay a huge amount.

What is the admission process and eligibility for the MDI Gurgaon?

Dishant VermaIIMA Alumnus

To get admission into Management Development Institute (MDI), the first step is to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam. You are eligible to write CAT if you have a recognized bachelor's degree (or professional degree like CA, CS, or ICWA) and have scored an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST and PWD students). Even students in their final year of a bachelor's degree can write the CAT exam.

The admission process at MDI consists of two stages. In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted for interviews based on their CAT score. In the second stage, a Personal Interview (PI) is conducted, and the final selection list is made based on the CAT percentile, Personal Interview, and Application score, which includes X, XII, Academic Diversity, Gender Diversity, and Work Experience.

The weightage for the CAT score in the final selection is 55%, which means a good CAT score boosts the chances of getting selected for the MBA program at MDI. To help you prepare for CAT, MDI offers free resources that can help you understand their pedagogy better, such as three free CAT mocks, one test on each topic (VARC, DILR, Quant) every day, the formula PDFs for all Quant topics for CAT, around 25 solved previous papers of CAT, and a CAT Percentile Predictor.

If you are aspiring to get into MDI, it is important to score well in CAT and prepare well for the Personal Interview.

Can I be converted into MDI Gurgaon with 95 percentile in CAT 95 percentages in 10th and 12th and 80 in B Tech with an average GDPI round?

Harleen SethiMBA from Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur (Graduated 2020)

To start with, around 2,00,000 candidates appeared for the CAT exam. This means that for every percentile, there are about 2000 people.

Now, let's say that your percentile is 95, which implies that the 5 percentile is more than yours. In other words, approximately 10000 candidates have scored better than you in the CAT exam.

Suppose that 2000 candidates did not apply for MDI, which leaves us with 8000 candidates. Looking at your good scores in 10th, 12th, and graduation, you are better than at least 4000 candidates out of the remaining 8000.

So, the number of candidates left now is 4000. In comparison, IIMs and private/government colleges like SP Jain, FMS, etc., there are around 1500 and 1000 seats available, respectively, in the general category, taking BLACKIS seats into consideration.

Assuming that they all choose colleges other than MDI, the probable candidates left for MDI with profiles better than yours would be 4000-(1500+1000) = 1500. Now, the number of seats available in MDI is approximately 350.

Considering the average GDPI, the probability of your selection in MDI would be 350/1500 = .23333. So, you have a 23.3% chance of getting selected for MDI.

Can someone brief me with the profiles (academics/cat percentile/work ex) of the people that made it into MDI Gurgaon?

Avi GuptaStudied at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon

There is no specific profile that is able to make it into MDI Gurgaon. Some are able to make it into MDI even with the 94 percentile and some are not able to get even with the 98 percentile. It’s the personal interview and GD round that comes into play here. The ones with lower percentiles usually have exceptionally good communication skills. The ones that make it into MDI with high percentile usually have decent work experience and profile.

But for MBA-IM there are many with mid-94–95 percentiles and decent profiles.

The conclusion is that you either need

  • High CAT score

Or

  • Excellent profile

Or

  • A very good GDPI score

A rich blend of the three increases your chances of getting into MDI Gurgaon drastically.

How much percentile is required for admission in MDI, JBIMS or FMS?

Anisha MukhijaStudied at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

My answer does mention the required percentile for each of the B Schools you mentioned. But before I proceed I would like to shed light on the fact that the CAT percentile is not the only factor that determines your admission into a B School. There are other factors you need to work on like academic background, work experience, and GD-PI.

MDI

The college offers PGDM admissions on the basis of CAT and GMAT scores. The expected CAT percentile is around 93-95 and the GMAT score is 680+.

Apart from this, the candidates are expected to have above average academic records, work experience and WAT.

JBIMS

The institute accepts CAT, MH-CET, and GMAT. The percentile cutoff for the General Category

CAT: 95

MH-CET: 99.97

GMAT is accepted only for NRIs.

FMS Delhi

This institute is well known for its extremely low fees and the null weightage given to past academics. Thus admissions are based on the CAT percentile for which the cutoff is very high and GD-PI. The CAT percentile can be around 98.3

It is important to note that CAT should not be the only factor to consider while preparing for admission. Interview and GD rounds should also be given equal importance in addition to work experience.

What kind of profile is needed to get into FMS Delhi and MDI Gurgaon?

Girish Singh
Darshika TondonAdmission consultant in Pune. (2011–present)

Actually, there is no such thing as academic weightage in FMS, but MDI gives academics weightage. To get a call from MDI, you must score higher than 98.2x for FMS and 95.5x percentile.

FMS is part of Delhi University, and its tuition is significantly lower than that of MDI. FMS fees are around 20-21k, whereas MDI fees are around 28 lakhs, which is much higher than FMS. FMS and MDI both give sectional cutoff weightage. If your academics are strong, it will benefit MDI, but FMS does not give academics weightage.GDPI considers extracurricular activities, work experience, and any other achievement.
