CTC consists of two main components: fixed and variable. The fixed component includes your basic salary, HRA, TA, LTA, employer's contribution to the provident fund, joining bonus, retention bonuses, and ESOPs. If you are already earning a salary as high as INR 71 LPA, I don’t think an MBA from MDI Gurgaon will do you any good. If you have decided on going for an MBA nevertheless, target the top B Schools like IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, XLRI, FMS, or IIM L. Choosing MDI for MBA is recommended only if you have offers from average B Schools like new IIMs, SPJIMR, NITIE, etc.

So first you need to get maximum calls from the top B Schools only then can you make a wise and informed decision.

So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT.

The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints.
You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA.
But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection.
Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job.
If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting.

These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.

Is the MDI Murshidabad worth joining keeping in mind the brand tag of MDI Gurgaon and is the highest package mentioned in report inflated? Can we trust their reports?

This answer is based on the experience of a friend who completed her MBA from MDI Murshidabad. The points of comparison between MDI Gurgaon and MDI Murshidabad are mentioned below

The curriculum is almost similar to the pedagogy adopted is also very similar
Most of the faculty is from MDI Gurgaon, IIM Calcutta, IIM Shillong, and other prominent B Schools
The infrastructure and facilities are decent enough to meet the requirements of a B School.
The institute provides a decent digital base that has major databases that helps in conducting basic research related to industry and academics. Yet this library is not as fast as MDI Gurgaon.
Comparing the placements is not justifiable as the duration of establishment is highly varied. But a general view ensures that MDI Murshidabad is going as per the trends in the industry.
Many national and international companies approached MDI Murshidabad students with decent job offers.

Be it a B School of the MDI family or the IIM family, it’s your efforts that enable you to get successful. Being serious about learning and having the desire to do better helps develop a better business sense which is in dearth these days.

How are HR summer placements at MDI Gurgaon? What is the average stipend received and what are the profiles offered?

You will be glad to know that the MDI HR batch gets placed much earlier than PGDM. This is because the batch is smaller than the number of visiting companies and hence all the students are placed within no time.

My friend was in MDI Gurgaon HR program and shared the summer placements scenario with me. Packages: 58 students were offered decent packages with the Highest CTC standing at INR 35.57 LPA. In fact the last candidate also got 85000/- month.

Profiles: Profiles vary from consultants to Corporate HR and Plant HR roles. Around 30 students are placed in consultant roles.

Companies visited: The big names that visited MDI Gurgaon for HR placements were Aditya Birla Group, Google, JSW Group, Accenture Strategy, AON Consulting, Deloitte USI, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Flipkart, Mahindra & Mahindra, PhonePe & PwC US Advisory.

All the top B-School competitions for HR are open for 3 colleges only namely Xl, TISS, and MDI. MDI students have won many such competitions and shone the name of the institute. Without any doubt it is one of the best B Schools in the country and its placements are a testament to that.

Does MDI Gurgaon provide placement assistance to its FPM students?

The MDI Gurgaon FPM program is structured in such a way that its students are given access to the corporate world owing to their constant commitment to research.

FPM students assist their guide and professors with their consulting assignments allowing them access to many corporations. You might be surprised to know that many firms come to MDI Gurgaon to seek help and consultation from MDI research students. This is done in the form of research assignments and live projects. This becomes possible because their curriculum and research methodologies are designed in such a way. This helps them to conduct elaborate research, understand the industry better and work on relevant industry-related issues.

In a nutshell, MD Gurgaon FPM students do not require placement assistance from a placement committee.

Most companies only consider past academics while shortlisting students. However, some companies have specialized criteria. For instance, a consulting firm prefers work experience that too in a similar domain. Top firms in the Finance sector like JPMC and Goldman Sachs prefer CAs or students with Finance backgrounds.

So we can conclude that although there is no specific distinction between GEM and other students, freshers do get an upper hand in Marketing and Sales roles. A lot of opportunities are there so don’t lose hope.

Which is the best among IIM Lucknow, Kozhikode, FMS and MDI (mainly in terms of placement and learning)? Commerce background with good academic background and 3 years experience.

Having read some reviews online about IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, FMS, and MDI, here are some things I got to know which might be useful to you.

IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode both are older brands. They have a proper recruiter base, alumni network, campus life, infrastructure, and better placements.
FMS also offers low-cost and decent placement facilities, but students of FMS claim to have no campus life and any eventful experience.
MDI is considered to be decent. Thankfully they have a better and more happening campus life, unlike FMS. Bain Capability Network recruits at MDI while Bain & Co. go to the other mentioned colleges.

So the order of preference would be IIM Lucknow > IIM Kozhikode > FMS > MDI. This is as per the major rankings including Times B-School categorization. So select the one that matches most of your interests.
