What Students Say
Likes
- I wanted to pivot to business from a tech background. This course (MiM) offers entry level people an opportunity without having much work experience (2 years) to have a master's degree. The brand name Schulich is quite big, and that attracted me to apply to this institution.
- Schulich School of Business is under York University. As it is a big brand name. I really like the offerings provided to the students, like the faculties, engaging curriculum. Schulich has a strong Alumni network that greatly helps with career opportunities.
- The location of the university is great; it is in Toronto but not in the middle of the city, so it is not very expensive. There are multiple opportunities to look for, which can be missing in a lot of small places and cities.
Dislikes
- One thing I like about my college is the lack of diversity. Although the professors are very good and knowledgeable, the cohort has a majority of Indian students. Due to increasing inflation and other economic factors, studying abroad, especially at universities, has become very difficult and requires a lot of financial resources. The accreditation of this college is very well known in Canada but not in other countries. Very limited opportunities in that case.
Required Exams for Admission
I have had a transformative and enriching experience overall at this university. I was able to explore new interests and grow personally and intellectually thanks to the diverse academic programs, dedicated professors, and vibrant campus life. Participating in extracurricular activities and making lifelong friends have been highlights of my journey. I am well-prepared for my future career and grateful for the opportunities provided by this institution.
Course Curriculum
In the last semester, we have had an exciting enterprise consulting project. In this, we act as strategy consultants and provide real-time solutions to an actual startup. This helps them grow their business. The course structure is very similar to what first-year MBA students are taught. You can get exposure without having so many years of experience.
Faculty
More than 60% of the faculties are international. They are extremely bright and knowledgeable. One of the professors, ,Gary Miller, teaches his subject so well that you will never be bored in class and you will learn everything from his activity based mechanism. Most of the teachers are also full time employees and use real life case studies to illustrate the topics.
Campus Life
There are numerous clubs to be a part of. Whatever your interest in studying, you can join that domain club. Additionally, the libraries are well equipped. There are numerous options to play sports and many activities to choose from, like zumba, yoga, and dancing.
Placement
Many companies have ties with the career department at Schulich. The median salary is somewhere around 55,000 Canadian dollars. It also depends on your experience and skills. You can even earn more. Most students try to become consultants, as B-schools are famous for teaching case interviews.
Accommodation
You can get both shared and private room accommodations based on your needs and requirements. The rentals are increasing due to inflation. Keep checking online to be up-to-date upon rent. The best place is Facebook Marketplace.
Exams
I only gave IELTS for my program. IELTS 7.0 overall. The minimum score required is 7 overall band with no less than 6.5 in any section. The documents required would be a CV, SOP, and LOR. In Sop, short essays were required as part of the admissions process, basically outlining your interest in the course and WHY this course? Discuss the long- and short-term goals for the future. One of the key points that needs to be emphasized is leadership. Additionally, you will be required to take LORs from teachers who are familiar with you. Tell them which characters they think are the strongest. There was one personal interview after submitting the application and before you get your result. The key to acing this interview is to be yourself. The questions were mostly related to why I am taking this course and what are my future goals.
Fees
The tuition fees for B-Schools are always costly. The one year tuition is 50,000-55,000 cad. This is exclusive of any other fees like books or study materials.
