What Students Say
Likes
- One of the top 3 business schools in Canada.
- "Flexibility and variety of options to specialize. Mostly great professors. Teach things from basics. Constantly introducing new courses and curriculum. Strategic Field Study with an actual company (Thesis project)"
Dislikes
- Few courses still deal with decade old case studies. Few of the interesting courses are restricted to specialized master's programs and are not open to MBA. Career development center needs a lot of improvement, especially individualized attention, guidance and mentorship.
Required Exams for Admission
Experience with Schulich was great. Helped me build my network in Canada. Fulfilled my primary objective of gaining knowledge on different business functions. It would be better if there was individualized attention and mentorship as few other colleges like Rotman does. Curriculum is mostly easy or not very difficult. I observed that some US business schools teach similar courses that have higher difficulty level with more contemporary cases, math and techniques.
Course Curriculum
Few courses are recently introduced. Remaining still teach decade old case studies. There is a Strategic Field Study which deals with a strategy group project with an actual firm and the group conducts a strategy assessment of the firm or a division of the firm and presents it's recommendations.
Faculty
1:60 in first year courses, 1:30 in specialization courses. Most faculty are good in teaching and encourages class room discussions. They are very approachable and never shuts you down for any question. Prof. Kiridaran - Managerial Accounting, Prof. Ashwin Joshi - Marketing, Prof. Murat Kristal - Digital Transformation.
Campus Life
Covid Batch - so no life on campus. But I was part of India - Canada cohort (2 semesters in India, 2 semesters in Canada). First 2 semesters were in Hyderabad, before covid and in-person classes. Those 2 semesters were amazing and we had a great cohort which studied and partied together.
Placement
Schulich is well reputed in Canada. Most students usually get placed within 90 days of course completion. But it might be taking a bit more in this slow economy.
Accommodation
York University housing is great budget friendly option one could get in entire Canada. My friend and I shared a 2 spacious 2 bedroom apartment for 1400 CAD.
Exams
GMAT 700 CV, LORs and academic transcripts, GMAT official score report. SOP related questions as a part of online application. 1 round of automated video interview - Gives a topic and asks you for a reply of couple of minutes that we need to record on the spot. No re-dos. Also, gives a topic and asks you to write a mail or paragraph in 5 min. 1 round of 1-on-1 virtual interview - Mine was simple and straight forward on why MBA, why Schulich, explain how MBA fits into your career aspirations. I heard few of my friends had a difficult interview compared to mine with many technical questions and in-depth grilling on past career and situational questions.
