Deakin University admissions take place across three trimesters per year for international students. Indian applicants need Class XII at 65% or higher for undergraduate entry with IELTS 6.0, and a Bachelor’s at 65% or higher plus IELTS 6.5 for most postgraduate coursework programs.

  • Next live Trimester 1 2027 (primary intake) applications close around late January 2027 for Indian students.
  • Base tuition for popular postgraduate degrees sits at A$34,400 to A$48,600 per year (around ₹22.34 Lakhs to ₹31.56 Lakhs), and Deakin charges no application fee for international students.
  • Indian applicants need Class XII at 65%+ (IELTS 6.0 minimum) for undergraduate entry and a Bachelor’s at 65%+ (IELTS 6.5 minimum) for postgraduate entry.
  • Deakin’s acceptance rate is estimated at around 75%, based on competitive-intake patterns; the university does not publish an official institutional figure.

Popular postgraduate picks for Indian students include the Master of Cyber Security, Master of Data Analytics, and Master of Business Administration (International). Reviews of Deakin University highlight industry-aligned coursework and a sizeable Indian community across the Burwood and Geelong campuses.

Status: Deakin University is currently accepting applications for upcoming intakes, including Trimester 3 2026. Trimester 3 2026 officially begins on 2 November 2026. International application deadlines vary by course and applicant region, so students should check their specific program requirements. Deakin University's official application pages do not currently list an application fee for international students.

Currency note: All rupee figures in this article use A$1 = ₹64.94 (June 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Deakin University Admission Deadlines for Indian Students

Deakin runs three intakes each year.

  • Trimester 1 (March) is the primary intake for Indian students because most coursework programs open here with the widest seat availability.
  • Trimester 2 (July) is the next-largest entry point.
  • Trimester 3 (November) is a smaller, course-restricted intake.

International deadlines vary by country, with Indian applicants advised to lodge documents 8 to 10 weeks before the start date to allow for Subclass 500 visa processing.

Intake Level Trimester Start
Trimester 1 2027 (Primary intake) UG and PG 22 February 2027 (recommended)
Trimester 3 2026 UG and PG (limited courses) 2 November 2026
Trimester 2 2026 (Closed) UG and PG 6 July 2026

Planning note: Aim to lodge your Deakin application 8 to 10 weeks before your target trimester. Indian applicants now face manual document verification for the Subclass 500 visa, and tight CoE-to-visa windows have triggered several deferrals among 2026 cohorts.

Deakin Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Most Indian applicants receive a conditional or full offer within 2 to 4 weeks of submission, provided documents are complete. Conditional offers require you to clear pending IELTS or final transcripts before becoming unconditional. After accepting your offer and paying the first-trimester tuition deposit, Deakin issues the CoE - the document Australia’s Department of Home Affairs requires for your Subclass 500 visa. Offers can be deferred once to the next available trimester at no cost, but a second deferral typically requires a fresh application.

Deakin University Admission Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Deakin is assessed on Indian academic equivalency rather than a single fixed percentage cutoff. The university maps Class XII boards (CBSE, ICSE, state) and 3 or 4-year Bachelor’s qualifications to its own bands, then applies course-specific minimums on top of the institution-wide floor.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 65%+ from a recognised Indian board
  • PG general entry: Bachelor’s at 65%+ or weighted average of 65 from a recognised Indian university
  • PG specialist entry: Bachelor’s in a related discipline, or any Bachelor’s plus 2 years of relevant work experience

Deakin accepts IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and PTE Academic. Institution-wide minimums by program level are:

Test UG Minimum PG Coursework Minimum
IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, no band below 6.0 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0
TOEFL iBT 60 overall 79 overall
PTE Academic 50 overall 58 overall

Deakin University MBA Admission for Indian Students

Deakin’s flagship for Indian managers is the Master of Business Administration (International), a 1-year intensive program offered through Deakin Business School. The program is trimester-based (no separate MBA rounds), with first-year tuition of A$48,600 per year (around ₹31.56 Lakhs) for the 2026 intake.

MBA International Eligibility for Indian Applicants

To be considered, you need a Bachelor’s Honours degree at 65% weighted average in a related discipline, OR a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s at 65% with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. There is no fixed GMAT or GRE requirement for the International MBA; Deakin assesses prior academic record and work experience together.

Interview and Decision Timing for Deakin MBA

Deakin Business School may invite shortlisted applicants for a brief online interview to confirm motivation and program fit, especially for candidates relying on the work-experience pathway. Most applicants receive a decision within 3 to 4 weeks. The MBA opens for Trimester 1, 2, and 3 entry, giving Indian applicants three start points per calendar year.

Insider note: Indian MBA applicants with a 3-year Bachelor’s often miss the entry path; the experience-substitution route (2 years of post-degree managerial work) is the standard workaround Deakin’s admissions team highlights for non-Honours Indian degrees.

Deakin University Documents Required for Indian Students

Deakin asks Indian applicants to upload certified, English-translated copies of every supporting document at the time of application. Originals are not posted; certified scans are uploaded through StudyLink Connect.

  • Valid Indian passport bio-page scan
  • Certified Class X and Class XII mark sheets and passing certificates
  • Certified Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (for PG applicants)
  • English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, Cambridge or Duolingo)
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining course choice and Deakin fit
  • One academic Letter of Recommendation (LOR) — two for research degrees
  • Updated CV or resume (mandatory for PG, MBA, and PhD applicants)
  • Work experience letters with role description (for MBA and experience-based PG entry)
  • Medium-of-instruction certificate from your school or university (if claiming the English waiver)
  • Research proposal and supervisor confirmation email (PhD applicants only)

Notarised translations are required if any document is not originally in English. Plan a buffer of 2 to 3 weeks for transcript collection and notarisation in India before submitting.

Deakin University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Deakin does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Commonly cited third-party estimates put the figure at around 75%, reflecting Deakin’s access-oriented admissions model — that is, the university admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English minimums. India contributes one of the largest international cohorts at Deakin, with the Burwood campus housing the bulk of Indian PG students.

Why Deakin’s Acceptance Rate Sits Near 75%

Deakin uses a transparent equivalency model rather than competitive ranking for most coursework programs. Indian applicants clearing the 65% Class XII or 65% Bachelor’s floor with the required IELTS typically receive an offer. The 75% figure is therefore an applicant-yield estimate, not a competitive cap. For context on how Deakin stacks up among Australian universities, check the latest ranking band.

How Indian Applicants Can Improve Their Deakin Offer Odds

For competitive courses — Doctor of Medicine, Bachelor of Nursing, select Master of Data Science cohorts — strong Class XII or Bachelor’s averages above the 75% mark, clear English scores at or above the program minimum, and a focused SOP push applications to the top of the queue.

Insider note: The 75% figure is a third-party estimate; course-level competitiveness varies sharply. Nursing, Medicine, and Data Science cohorts shortlist much tighter than the institution-wide figure suggests.

Deakin University offers Indian applicants a transparent, equivalency-based admissions path with three intakes per year, no application fee, and a known set of academic and English minimums. The main decisions sit on intake choice, English-test route, and visa-lodgement timing under Evidence Level 3 scrutiny.

Overview

I had to submit my short 300 words SoP and one long detailed SoP, and a detailed CV as well. The main reason was the ranking of this university is quite good as compared to other university and the fee structure is also affordable compared to group of eight. Also the main highlight was the course i took was accredited from Australian computer society(ACS). Overall its good but the course is challenging because i do not have background of IT and the university experience is top notch like the facilities are quite good. The lecture theatre, library, medical centre, Gym are quite good. There are many cafes and vending machine in the premises where you can get variety of food ranging from continental to indian.
