AILET 2026: Selected Candidates and Final Seat Statistics

Out of 22,532 students who appeared for AILET 2026 BA LLB (Hons.), only 110 seats were available at National Law University (NLU) Delhi - a selection rate of under 0.5 per cent, making AILET one of the most competitive law entrance tests in India.

AILET 2026 was held on December 14, 2025. NLU Delhi released results on December 18, 2025, followed by multiple merit lists and counselling rounds through early 2026. For the LLM programme, 2,787 students competed for 70 merit seats. Final admissions were confirmed after four rounds of counselling based on AILET scores, category eligibility and document verification.

AILET 2026 Admission at a Glance

NLU Delhi is the only institution accepting AILET scores. Admission is strictly merit-based with separate cutoffs for each category. The table below captures the headline numbers from AILET 2026.

Total Seats: BA LLB and LLM

NLU Delhi admitted up to 120 students through AILET 2026 for BA LLB (Hons.) and up to 80 students for the LLM programme. Of these, 110 BA LLB seats and 70 LLM seats were filled on AILET merit. The remaining seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO students who apply through a separate direct merit quota.

Horizontal reservations apply across all categories for both programmes. 30 per cent of seats within each vertical category are reserved for female students and 5 per cent within each category are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwD). These horizontal reservations do not reduce the total seat intake.

Category-Wise Seat Breakdown

AILET 2026 seat distribution follows government reservation norms. The table below shows the vertical category allocation for both programmes on AILET merit.

Supernumerary seats for Foreign Nationals (5 seats) and OCI/PIO (5 seats) are over and above these figures for each programme. PwD and female student horizontal reservations apply within each vertical category and do not reduce the total seat count.

Applicants vs Selected: Competition Ratio

For every 100 students who appeared in AILET 2026 BA LLB, fewer than 1 received a seat at NLU Delhi. This makes AILET more selective than most national-level professional entrance tests.

The appearance rate was high across both programmes with over 94 per cent of registered BA LLB students and 86 per cent of registered LLM students appearing on exam day. This reflects strong commitment despite the extremely low seat count relative to demand.

Counselling Rounds and Merit Lists

NLU Delhi conducted four counselling rounds for AILET 2026, releasing a provisional merit list after each round. Approximately 330 students were called for BA LLB counselling - roughly three times the number of available seats - to account for students who decline their allotment.

Each merit list is published on the NLU Delhi website and includes the serial number, All India rank, admit card number, vertical category and horizontal reservation details. Students listed in each allotment must complete document verification and fee payment within the stipulated window to confirm their seat. Seats vacated due to non-payment or withdrawal are offered to the next student in the merit order in subsequent rounds.

Closing Ranks by Category

The General category BA LLB closing rank in the third counselling round stood at rank 71. Closing ranks tightened progressively across rounds as each merit list absorbed remaining vacant seats. The LLM General category closing rank in Round 3 was rank 45.

Based on 2025 trends, the expected final closing ranks by category for BA LLB (Hons.) are as follows. All figures are based on previous year data and should be treated as indicative.

LLM category-wise final closing ranks follow a similar pattern to BA LLB with OBC and reserved categories showing higher numerical closing ranks. Final Round 4 closing ranks for all categories should be verified on the official NLU Delhi portal once released.
