With over 7000 students enrolled, the College enjoys a very high student retention rate for the sophomore year at 94%.The College offers over 50 majors and is most well-known for its strong liberal arts courses. Additionally, the institute has been offering an ‘Undeclared – General Major’ since 2020, which allows students to explore coursework across academic schools with a designated academic advisor before committing to a certain major during the sophomore year.

The College of New Jersey Campus

The TCNJ Campus Town contains a large sprawled out retail space with specialty stores, restaurants, entertainment venues, as well as a market for students to explore. The campus is well-connected and approachable by air by rail through Trenton Station; and by bus through the New Jersey Transit-Mercer.

Atrium at Eickhoff Hall, the C-Store at Eickhoff Hall, the Lion's Den food court in the Brower Student Center, are some of the dining options available in the campus.. The R. Barbara Gitenstein Library is a five-story library equipped with 26 group study rooms, late-night study area, multi-purpose auditorium and a café.

Center for the Arts Site and the Art Gallery help students express their artistic endeavours and interact with diverse cultures and perspectives.The Brower Student Center helps students with event planning and management. The student-run College Union Board conducts many entertainment events inviting actors, rappers, comedians and other celebrities on-stage.

The College of New Jersey Housing

TCNJ is a primarily undergraduate, residential college that has separate facilities for on-campus and off-campus residents. The policies at the residence halls are guided by the residential curriculum decided by the College. Each of the residence halls are designed to provide a different experience of housing for students in the USA.

  • The on-campus residence halls are classified by First Year, Sophomore year, and Upper Class.
  • The residence halls are supplied with vending and laundry facilities, mail boxes, communal space, 24-hour card swipe access. Rooms come with a bed, chair, dresser, closet or wardrobe, overhead light and two trash cans.
  • The College maintains a list of off-campus residential options called the “Independent Housing Options” or IHO. There are also several hotels within 10 miles from the campus.
  • The Meal-Per-Week plans for residential students are costing 2295-2400 USD. There are also the different A La Carte Meal Plans at 1950, 1675, and 961 USD per semester.

The Cost of campus residence is 9516 USD per annum and the meals for the same period cost around 4800 USD.

The College of New Jersey Programs

TCNJ provides a wide range of majors to choose from. The most popular courses chosen by students are the undergraduate level liberal arts majors. The College is nationally acclaimed for its affordable education and personalised collaborative and rigorous academic curriculum.The College of New Jersey offers over degrees in 50 liberal arts and professional programs.
The programs of the College of New Jersey are divided into seven schools namely School of the Arts and Communication, School of Business, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Education, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, Health and Exercise Sciences and School of Sciences.

The TCNJ in collaboration with the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) also offers a 7 year long combined course for Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).It also offers more than 20 master’s degrees as well as non-degree certificates at post-bachelor’s and post-master’s levels.

  • Common Application or Coalition Application
  • The Common Application or Coalition Application essay, which can be on a variety of topics. It is the official essay used in the evaluation process.

  • SAT or ACT scores (temporarily optional) submitted from the official testing agency or printed on an official school transcript.

The College of New Jersey Scholarships

At TCNJ, the international students can qualify for the same scholarships as any out of state applicant. TCNJ offers merit and need-based scholarships to deserving students through awards within the range of 1000 to 6000 USD, bringing the total amount closer to the regular fees of in-state students. These scholarships are awarded every year. Recipients of these awards tend to rank within the top 20% of their high school’s graduating class.

Out of State Scholarships:

  • The Lions Legacy Award is granted to the children of TSC / TCNJ alumni. Children of alumni from out-of-state would still be required to pay only the in-state tuition fees during four consecutive years of study if they meet the criteria.
  • Lion’s Pride Need-Based Scholarship is awarded to merit scholarship recipient students who have demonstrated financial need. The Lion’s Pride award supplements the merit scholarship and the sum of the two scholarships can not exceed 12000 USD per year
  • RaiseMe scholarships for TCNJ are awarded to qualifying students before and during the application review process based on their high school achievements.

Work While You Study

Student employment at The College of New Jersey is limited to current TCNJ students attending classes on a minimum of half-time status. This restriction is waived during the Summer, but the student employed cannot have already graduated in December or May. During the academic year 15 hours of work is allowed whereas in winter and summer break 35 hours of work is allowed.
