Research opportunities especially with UChicago labs and Argonne national laboratory are great if people get in touch with the right professors. For Masters in CS, currently the industry scenario is not the best, but it is improving slowly. Especially due to heavy recession in tech industry at the moment in US, it has been a very difficult year for students to find internships and jobs.

University of Chicago has been a dream come true for me since I always wanted to do a masters in computer science after working as a software engineer. It is one of the few universities that allowed people like me who come from a totally different background (mechanical engineering) to pursue masters in CS. The entire masters program - though rushed due to quarter pattern instead of semesters - has been quite challenging and very relevant to developing practical skills that would be easily transferrable to the real world. It has been a wholesome experience for me.

Most of the students get placed and as said there are not many companies visited and drives in the University.

Its an overall good experience to study at University of Chicago but one should consider the university fees before taking a call to join the university. Because of the university ranking and teaching curriculum which has good reviews from previous students.

All top firms visit campus and host info sessions. There are career fairs where 100s of employers attend and all kinds of industries are covered. There is a website specifically accessible to UChicago students where you can post jobs as an employer and where students can find jobs based on their interests. Median salary for economics grads is 83,000 USD per year. For computer science grads it is 87,000 USD per year. Most people i know hit six figures after one year in the job. I am not sure about the placement rate but if i am not mistaken 80-90% of students reported having employment upon graduation.

Ranking and culture both appealed to me when i was choosing. it was the top school in economics and the people i spoke to seemed very intelligent and interesting.
