CSMU L.L.M. FAQs
Ques. Is CLAT-PG mandatory for L.L.M. admission at CSMU?
Ans. No, CLAT-PG is not mandatory for L.L.M. admission at CSMU. The university accepts admissions through CLAT-PG score, CSMUCET, or direct merit based on L.L.B. marks. If you have a valid CLAT-PG score, you can submit it during the application process. If you haven't appeared in CLAT-PG, you can still apply and be considered based on your L.L.B. percentage. This flexibility makes CSMU accessible to working advocates and law graduates who may not have specifically prepared for CLAT-PG.
Ques. What is the total cost of doing L.L.M. at CSMU including all charges?
Ans. The total programme fee for L.L.M. at CSMU for 2026-27 is Rs. 1,60,000 over 2 years (Rs. 80,000 per year). In addition, there is a one-time non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 15,000 and an application fee of Rs. 1,500. Examination fees are charged separately at Rs. 1,000 per exam. If you opt for hostel accommodation, it costs an additional Rs. 92,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 per year depending on room type, with mess charges billed separately.
Ques. Can I pursue Ph.D. in Law at CSMU after completing L.L.M.?
Ans. Yes, CSMU offers a Ph.D. in Law programme for eligible L.L.M. graduates. The Ph.D. (Law) at CSMU is available in both full-time and part-time modes. The full-time Ph.D. (Engineering/Management/Law) is priced at Rs. 1,60,000 per year, while the part-time Ph.D. (Law) is Rs. 1,40,000 per year. After completing L.L.M. from CSMU, you can apply for the Ph.D. programme subject to clearing the university's Ph.D. entrance test and interview.
Ques. What specialisations are available in L.L.M. at CSMU?
Ans. CSMU's L.L.M. programme covers advanced legal subjects including constitutional law, corporate and commercial law, criminal law, international law, intellectual property rights, environmental law, and human rights law. The specific specialisation tracks available may vary by batch; students are advised to check with the School of Law directly for the current specialisation options. The programme is designed to provide both theoretical depth and practical legal research skills.
Ques. Is L.L.M. from CSMU useful for UGC-NET (Law) and teaching careers?
Ans. Yes, an L.L.M. degree is the minimum qualification required to appear for UGC-NET in Law (Paper I and Paper II), which is necessary for appointment as an Assistant Professor in law colleges and universities. After completing L.L.M. from CSMU (a BCI-approved university), you are eligible to appear for UGC-NET Law. Qualifying UGC-NET with JRF also makes you eligible for research fellowships. CSMU's L.L.M. programme is therefore a strong pathway for those aspiring to academic careers in law.
Ques. What is the difference between doing L.L.M. at CSMU versus a government law college in Mumbai?
Ans. CSMU is a private university established in 2019, offering a modern campus, smaller batch sizes, and flexible admission criteria (no mandatory CLAT-PG). Government law colleges in Mumbai (like Government Law College, Mumbai) are older institutions with stronger alumni networks and lower fees, but admissions are highly competitive and seat availability is limited. CSMU's L.L.M. at Rs. 80,000/year is competitively priced for a private university in Navi Mumbai. Students who prioritise campus facilities, proximity to Navi Mumbai, and flexible admission may prefer CSMU, while those seeking legacy and lower fees may prefer government institutions.
