Ques. Which MA specialisations are available at CSMU, and how do I choose the right one?
Ans. CSMU offers MA in English, Economics, History, Hindi, Geography, Marathi, Political Science, and Journalism and Mass Communication. The choice of specialisation should align with your undergraduate background and career goals. For example, if you studied English Literature at the UG level and wish to pursue academics or writing, MA English is ideal. If you are interested in civil services or public policy, MA Economics, History, or Political Science would be more relevant. MA in Journalism and Mass Communication is suited for those targeting media careers. Each specialisation has a separate intake of 30 seats.
Ques. Is the MA from CSMU recognised for UGC NET/SET eligibility?
Ans. Yes, the MA from CSMU is a UGC-recognised postgraduate degree from a State Private University established under the Government of Maharashtra Act XXXII of 2018. Graduates are fully eligible to appear for the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) and Maharashtra SET (State Eligibility Test) examinations in their respective subjects. Clearing UGC NET/SET is required for appointment as Assistant Professor in colleges and universities, and MA from CSMU qualifies you to sit for these examinations.
Ques. What is the admission process for MA at CSMU, and is there any entrance exam?
Ans. Admission to MA at CSMU is based on the CSMUCET (CSMU Common Entrance Test), conducted after prima-facie document verification. The process begins with an online application at admissions.csmu.ac.in, followed by document verification, the entrance test (if applicable), an offer of admission, and confirmation of admission upon payment of fees. Candidates who have cleared recognised competitive exams may be exempted from CSMUCET. The application fee is Rs. 1,500 (non-refundable). Admissions for 2026-27 started from 1st March 2026.
Ques. What are the career options after completing MA from CSMU?
Ans. MA graduates from CSMU can pursue careers in academics (as lecturers/professors after clearing UGC NET/SET), research, civil services (IAS/IPS/State PSC), journalism, content writing, public administration, NGO sector, and corporate communications. Specific career paths depend on the specialisation chosen. For example, MA Economics graduates can work in banking, finance, and policy research; MA English graduates can pursue teaching, editing, and content creation; MA Political Science graduates can target civil services and public policy roles.
Ques. Can I pursue a PhD after completing MA from CSMU?
Ans. Yes, MA graduates from CSMU are eligible to apply for PhD programmes at CSMU and other universities, subject to clearing the UGC NET/SET or the university's own PhD Entrance Test (PET) as per UGC Regulations 2022. CSMU offers PhD programmes in Arts and Humanities disciplines. The minimum eligibility for PhD is a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories). CSMU alumni pursuing higher degrees at the university are also eligible for a 25% scholarship on course fees.
Ques. What is the fee structure for MA at CSMU, and are there any additional charges?
Ans. The total fee for the 2-year MA programme at CSMU is Rs. 1,15,000, which includes a one-time non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 15,000 and an annual fee of Rs. 50,000 per year (comprising tuition fee of Rs. 20,000 and other fees of Rs. 15,000). Additionally, an examination fee of Rs. 1,000 per exam is charged separately. Note that MA (Psychology) has a higher fee of Rs. 80,000/year due to its specialised nature. Hostel accommodation is available optionally at Rs. 92,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 per year depending on the type of room.
