SRM University Sonepat Faculties : Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 139 Reviews

The faculty at the college is generally well-qualified and approachable, with most holding advanced degrees such as Master's or PhDs. However, there is a challenge with the student-to-faculty ratio, which is reported to be about 1:22, potentially impacting personalized attention for students. Despite this, faculty members are noted for being supportive, offering guidance both academically and in professional pursuits. The exam system consists of two mid-semester tests and one end-semester exam, with difficulty levels ranging from moderate to hard.

The course curriculum includes additional subjects for personality development and involves practical components like coding languages. There are variations in faculty demeanor, with some being supportive and student-friendly, while others are perceived as strict or less approachable. The overall quality of education is deemed average due to these inconsistencies, despite some faculty being highly praised for their teaching methods and mentorship.

Faculty:

The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:60, which is fair. Most of the teachers are friendly, polite, and easy to approach for help, whether in class or after hours. They’re usually open to doubts and extra support if you ask. I personally liked the maths faculty, English faculty, and the CSE (computer) faculty. They explain topics clearly, use examples while teaching, and are patient with students who may need a bit more time. As for the exams, each semester has three exams — MST1, MST2, and End Semester. MST1 and MST2 are internal exams, each out of 20 marks per subject, and they get converted into 10 marks each. Internals (total 40 marks) include these MSTs, plus 10 marks from assignments and 10 marks from other things like vivas, attendance, and quizzes. The end semester exam is out of 100, and it gets converted into 60 marks. The final score is a sum of internal (40) and external (60). The exams are quite fair and mostly based on what is taught in class. If you’ve attended lectures and revised the notes, passing isn’t hard. Very few students actually fail, unless they completely ignore the syllabus. The first-year course structure is relevant and builds a good base, with subjects from all engineering domains and basic sciences.

The faculty-to-student ratio at our college is quite decent, allowing students to get personal attention whenever needed. Most teachers are approachable, and they're always ready to help. There are usually two internal assesments in one semester and an End-Sem Exam. The internal assesments carry 10 marks each.

The faculty to student ratio is 15:1 The faculties are approachable and cooperative. There is Dr M.Mohan who is the Head of the CSE Department. He seems strict but is very dedicated in supporting students always. There are 2 Internals Assessment Tests and then we have End Semester Exams. Students who study consistently are able to clear the exams with ease.

Faculty:

Faculty members are nice by behaviour, they may appear strict in classes but are good outside, you can approach them and they are happy to help you. Though currently due to high demand of CSE and more than 2000 students in CSE there is little shortage in number of teachers available and some of the teachers have left but new faculty members are being hired continuously. The exam pattern follow 2 internal exams for theory subjects which are equivalent to 20 marks , other assessment criteria is class behaviour, assignments , attendance, test which is also of 20 marks and lastly external exams or semester exam of 60 marks. the practical subjects have internal assessment of 60 or 70 depending on subject and remaining 30 or 40 is external waitage. The exam difficulty is overall moderate, and most of the subjects are relevant to course.

SRM University Sonepat: 1 Answered Question

Which college is better for Aerospace Engineering, IIEST Shibpur or SRM University? (Considering everything - from Faculty to Placements)

Komal Yadav
Sourav RoyStudied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur

IIEST Shibpur is a well-known institute in India. Although it has faced some challenges in recent years, it has been making progress. Aerospace Engineering is the newest department at IIEST, having been established in 2011 by branching out from the Mechanical Engineering Department. Despite being a small batch, the department has a lot of potential.

  • When it comes to faculty, IIEST has an edge over SRM. The Mechanical Department, in particular, is considered one of the premier departments at IIEST.
  • IIEST also has better laboratory and infrastructure facilities than SRM, which is important for students pursuing engineering degrees.
  • In terms of placements, both IIEST and SRM are not doing great. IIEST has the excuse of being a new player in the game, while SRM has had the department for a long time. However, IIEST does have slightly better placements than SRM.

It's important to note that ranking colleges based solely on placements is not always accurate. Research output is often a more important criterion to consider.

IIEST Shibpur has better faculty and facilities than SRM, and at a much lower cost. So, if you're looking for an Aerospace Engineering college, IIEST Shibpur is worth considering.
