Additionally, the institution recognizes the importance of supporting students financially and offers various avenues for scholarships, financial assistance, and campus employment opportunities.
Faculties are highly experienced with great knowledge and some of them have good teaching and mentorship style.
The classes are also very nice, the library is beautiful, well organized and peaceful.

Dislikes

We get information about scholarships, they are not interested in giving scholarships to poor students like us.
I disliked the lack of facilities in college sports, or music room facilities gym and all and mess is also not good
There is one almirah and one table and one bed provided in the hostel but the mess is really not good which was a problem in every college.

Campus is so beautiful and full of greenery. Our Campus size is 187 acres which is moderate in size and found no difficulty to reach from hostel to classroom.
Our College 's girl boy ratio is good. approximately is 1:5.Our college encourages girl's power. Our college professors is so nice, humble and well qualified. Our seniors are also very helpful.
Our college has a dedicated training and placement cell which ensures for every eligible and qualified students to grab the job and internship. Our college not only provide academic excellence but also provide cultural excellence.

Dislikes

Our college has so much restrictions especially for First year undergraduate students. They are not allowed to explore even the campus.
Our College authority is very strict towards rules. They can take strict action if anybody found guilty of breaking the rules of college
Our college professors are so gentle and humble but in case of marks evaluation they are very strict.They deduct marks for very minor mistakes.

Placement Experience:

Our college has a dedicated training and placement cell which ensures every eligible and qualified students to grabs interships and jobs opportunities. From 5th semester our college provide intership opportunities for every eligible students. Our college has fantastic placement records in terms of package and percentage of students select. Very famous and renowned companies visits our college in every year examples like Google Facebook Microsoft Amazon Wipro Infosys TCS Flipkart And psus like- Indian Oil ONGC Bharat Petroleum HPCL. Our college placement records can be easily found on our college websites. If we talks about session 2024-25 Highest package offered was 51LPA And average package was 7.35LPA And overall placement percentage was 72percent In 2023 highest package was 70LPA. And placement percentage 72.

The lab work and academic lectures by our professors.

Campus is more restricted for 1st year students

Placement Experience:

From 5th semester students are eligible for summer internships followed by Pre-placement offer and from 7th semester students are eligible for full time placements. Some companies are- Microsoft, Apple, salesforce, adobe, Accenture, infosys, tcs, Reliance, Hindustan petroleum corporation limited, zscaler, quantiphi, Maq software, Hero, Larsen and Toubro, Hyundai etc. Offers made till date are around 500. highest package is 80LPA and average is 7 LPA. percentage of students getting placements is around 70-75% My plan is doing my job IT job for 4 years after that I can switch for better oppourtunities.

My College, My second Home

Likes

I liked the infrastructure of the college especially the hostels and the academic building
The faulty teaches everything relevantly and hmthey have more experience
I am very much interested in roaming around college in night timesnd

Dislikes

The college regulations of allowing students outside for min time
The message food which is not proper and sometimes unhygienic
The lab facilities which are very old and not that much precise

Placement Experience:

The placement starts from the 7th sem onwards the selection is based on the students that are eligible for the companies and also based on CGPA criteria imposed by the companies.If no one is placed the college will recommend some companies to the students for off campus selections

Some of the hostel blocks are good which are new eg.Hall14
Maintainance of hostels are good and mess food in some of hostels are decent
Girls get a lot of onternship offers like big companies Nvidia

Dislikes

Poor sports facilities,we dont even have proper equipment to play and they dont even maintain ground properly
Lab equipments are too old and they dont even change the connecting wires in electical department laboratories
They dont even conduct cultural activities every year

Placement Experience:

Campus placements are decent enough .From third year onwards students are eligible for the internship opputtunities and in final year students get a lot of campus placement opputunities.Top companies like microsoft ,Nvidia, Goldmannsachs etc. are visited for internships with 10,3,5 students recpectively offering Rs.100000,75000 and 60000 respectively per month internship. Highest package from our college is 51LPA.5 students offered this from microsoft and average package of our college is 7 LPA. 75-80 percentage of studens get placements .10 percent students opt for higher education and rest were unemployed

NIT Durgapur-the pros and cons

Likes

There are incredibly talented people around, including classmates, seniors and instructors who actively try to help and guide you. Socializing is easy and effortless with people actively willing to connect with others having shared interests.
The campus life is thriving, with numerous active clubs to promote a wide range of skills, from various artistic pursuits to technology, coding, robotics, as well as dedicated clubs for entrepreneurship and management.
The newer hostels are well equipped with large, airy and comfortable rooms, common areas, bathrooms, etc

Dislikes

The older hostels and falling apart and need immediate renovation.
Classrooms in the main academic block and the older departments are poorly ventilated and lacking air-conditioning and microphones, making the environment immensely uncomfortable for learning.
The girls to boys ratio is 1:4, making it a predominantly male centric campus, which inconveniences the female students.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for on campus internships in their 5th semester, and these internships are completed in the semster break after 3rd year. They become eligible for placements in their 7th semesters. Some companies offer 6 month internships to be completed in the 8th semester, followed by full-time job offers, while other companies directly give job offers for joining after the 8th semester, or the four year college course is completed. In the 2023-2024 academic year, over 600 offers were made and over 560 students were placed, along with 120+ summer interns. The highest package offered was 51 lpa and the average package offered was 11.58 lpa. Major recruiters include Apple, Microsoft, Accenture, PWC, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Larson and Toubro, JSW, TCS, HeroMotocorp, Wells Fargo, Nvidia, BNY Mellon, ICICI bank, Tredence, ZS Associates, Mahindra, Uber, Oracle, Adobe, Alstom transport and many more. The electrical department saw the highest percentage of students getting placed with 85.88%, followed by metallurgy at 82.14%, computer science at 81.97%, chemical at 80.3%, ECE at 72.16%, mechanical at 72%, civil at 59.4% and biotechnology at 30.1% on campus. Due to ongoing recession, the on campus placements fell in comparison to previous years, as in most premier institutes across India. Many students opted for more lucrative off campus placements while others sat for examinations like GATE and CAtT for higher studies. My personal plan after the degree involves sitting for the GATE examination to secure a seat for a masters degree in a reputed IIT and pursue further studies in higher educational institues.

Survival Guide of NIT Durgapur

Friendly professors in the Computer Science Department, they are always down for conversations and guidance sessions regarding the ongoing development tech scenario.
Clubs are Pretty active, and have a very competitive selection process, bringing out the best out of the applicants.
Decent Campus size, numerous places to hang out and chill with friends.

Dislikes

Intime can sometimes be strict, guards yell upon late arrival at hostels.
Mess food quality is average to below average. Food tastes good atmost 2-3 times a week.
Hostel rooms vary hall to hall, hall 14 may be the newest hostel but has the worst rooms in terms of construction,

Placement Experience:

Placements at NIT Durgapur are phenomenal. Students are eligible for placements from 6th semester onwards. Some of the visiting companies include Microsoft, Apple, and JPMC. They offer attractive packages to students, with the highest placement being 50 LPA. The average placement for all the students is around 11LPA. For branches like CSE, ECE and EEE, the average is consistently above 16-17 LPA. The placement percentage is around 80% for CSE students. My plans after getting the degree will be to work in the industry for 1-2 years and then proceed to higher studies abroad.

Likes

Infrastructure of college is pretty good .it is located in large area with two big outdoor ground and indoor ground .Auditorium has capacity for 2000 people so big good setup.
The college play a big role in professional development from sports to academia
Recstacy and aarohan are the two fests of this college. Aarohan is the tech fest whereas the recstacy is the cultural fest. Library has an adequate number of books for all department. There are over 20 clubs in this college.

Dislikes

Location: For students coming from metropolitan areas, Durgapur might feel somewhat remote or lack certain urban amenities and activities.
Restrictions: For 1st year there is lot of restrictions such as they can't go out from hostel after 7pm .
Hostel Conditions: Occasionally, students report that hostel conditions are not ideal, mentioning issues with maintenance, cleanliness, or basic amenities.

The core subjects are comprehensive and aligned with other top engineering programs in India, covering theoretical knowledge and technical skills that are valuable for both industry and academia. ?skill based: Core engineering fields could benefit from modules on interdisciplinary skills, like product development or basic coding skills for non-CS branches, which can be increasingly relevant in today’s job market. ?Research Preparation: For students interested in further studies, especially in technical research, NIT Durgapur’s curriculum provides a strong foundation, though it might benefit from even more research-driven assignments and early exposure to research methodology. ? There could be a greater focus on project-based learning, where students work on comprehensive projects spanning multiple semesters, instead of smaller, isolated projects. ?Offering more elective options that allow students to explore interdisciplinary topics would add value. For instance, introducing entrepreneurship, design thinking, or sustainable engineering could help students develop a more rounded skill set. ? I think some of subjects are difficult to study so there must be some gap between the papers. And mainly for some subjects we can get shortage of time.

The infrastructure of nit durgapur is very good.
The faculties of every department are very experienced.

The schedule of the classes are in the afternoon time, which is very bad according to me
The weather of nit durgapur is very humid.

NIT DURGAPUR - A COMPLETE OVERVIEW

Likes

The campus placements are pretty good with average placement of 11.58 lacs/annum
The campus is very beautiful and very lushy green.
The books in the libraries are easily available

Here is a detailed review shared by my brother who completed his graduation from NIT Durgapur

Infrastructure: Honestly, the infrastructure isn’t all that great but will provide all the basic amenities necessary for a good academic environment.
Faculty: Most students have to resort to self-study because the professors are not very passionate about teaching. However, if you do good projects under a professor, you may be able to pursue a master's in a foreign university.
Placements: NIT Durgapur has recorded excellent placements. This year the highest CTC offered was INR 70 LPA while the average salary offered was INR 13.64 LPA. The top recruiters included TCS Ninja, PwC, ICICI Bank, Microsoft, and many others. More than 100 recruiters participated in the placement drive and 633 students were placed.
Opportunities: The NIT tag will open a number of opportunities for you and the alumni network is also quite extensive. You can also avail opportunities like workshops and clubs.
Campus life: The campus life is very active with many fun-filled events like the freshers' farewell party and celebration of regional festivals. Additionally, a number of cultural and technical fests are also held.
Administration : The administration is very slow and is not cooperative. You might face some issues.
Location : NIT Durgapur faces no major connectivity issues. The railway station is 30 mins or 14 km away while the nearest airport is at Andal, which isn't well connected, so Kolkata Airport will be a better option. You can find the Auto rickshaw stand just at the main gate.
