CSJMU M.Sc Agriculture FAQs
Ques. Does CSJMU offer a general M.Sc. Agriculture degree or only specialised M.Sc. (Ag.) programmes?
Ans. CSJMU's School of Advanced Agriculture Sciences and Technology offers M.Sc. Agriculture in specific specialisations rather than a generic M.Sc. Agriculture. The primary specialisation available on campus is M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy (30 seats). Additionally, M.Sc. (Ag.) Horticulture in Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, and Floriculture and Landscaping (10 seats each) are also offered. Students seeking admission should apply specifically for the specialisation they wish to pursue. The degree awarded is M.Sc. (Ag.) with the respective specialisation mentioned on the certificate.
Ques. Is the admission to M.Sc. Agriculture at CSJMU based on entrance exam or merit?
Ans. Admission to M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy at CSJMU is purely merit-based, i.e., based on marks obtained in the qualifying B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or B.Sc. Agriculture degree. There is no separate entrance examination conducted by CSJMU for this programme. Students simply need to register on the university's admission portal, and a merit list is prepared based on graduation marks. This makes the process straightforward compared to institutions that require ICAR AIEEA PG scores.
Ques. What is the scope after completing M.Sc. Agriculture (Agronomy) from CSJMU?
Ans. Graduates of M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy from CSJMU can pursue careers in government agricultural departments (as Agricultural Officers, Soil Conservation Officers), research institutions (ICAR institutes, KVKs), agri-input companies (seeds, fertilisers, pesticides), agri-banking (NABARD, cooperative banks), and teaching. Many students also go on to pursue Ph.D. programmes at CSJMU itself or at other agricultural universities. The NAAC A++ and UGC Category-I status of CSJMU adds credibility to the degree for both government and private sector recruiters.
Ques. Can students from other states apply for M.Sc. Agriculture at CSJMU, and is reservation applicable to them?
Ans. Yes, students from other states can apply for M.Sc. Agriculture at CSJMU. However, the benefit of reservation (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) is applicable only to candidates originally belonging to Uttar Pradesh. Candidates from other states belonging to reserved categories will be treated as General category for the purpose of admission at CSJMU. This is an important point for out-of-state applicants to keep in mind while assessing their chances of admission.
Ques. Are hostel facilities available for M.Sc. Agriculture students at CSJMU, and how do I apply?
Ans. Yes, CSJMU has six on-campus hostels with a total capacity of 1,114 seats - two boys' hostels (Shivaji and Swarn Jayanti) and four girls' hostels (Ganga, Triveni, Saraswati, Kaveri). Hostel accommodation is optional and not mandatory for M.Sc. Agriculture students. Applications for hostel allotment are made through the Samarth portal (csjmu.samarth.edu.in) after securing admission. Rooms are allotted and finalised by the respective wardens. The hostel fee for 2025-26 ranges from Rs. 20,620 to Rs. 36,370 per year depending on the hostel and room type, exclusive of mess charges.
Ques. What research and practical facilities are available for M.Sc. Agriculture students at CSJMU?
Ans. CSJMU's School of Advanced Agriculture Sciences and Technology has dedicated modern laboratories, research and experimental farms on the 264-acre campus, and a library with digital resources. Students get hands-on exposure through field experiments, farm visits, and research projects as part of the curriculum. The school also has strong linkages with farmer communities through extension programmes, giving students practical exposure to real agricultural challenges. Additionally, the university's Incubation Foundation (CSJMUIF) supports agri-entrepreneurship ideas, which is particularly useful for students interested in agri-startups after graduation.
