I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore. On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths. The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs. The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch. For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds. Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them. Fees and Financial Aid:

The BTech course is four years and the total fee is about ?3.8 to ?4 lakh, with a small rise each year due to dev and uni costs. In year one the fee is about ?1,03,000 and it has tuition, admit fee, reg fee, lab fee, dev fee, stud fund, PTA fee and a ?5,000 caut dep which is refund at the end. In year two the fee is near ?89,000 with tuition, uni fee, lab fee and other set costs. In year three the fee is about ?93,000 with the same main parts. In year four the fee is near ?97,000 with small rise in tuition and lab fee. Gen or mgmt quota pay about ?75,000 to ?1,00,000 per year. OBC may pay ?40,000 to ?60,000 per year. SC and ST may get fee cut or full tuition aid and pay only base admin cost. Aid like merit aid, merit need aid, post mat aid for SC ST OBC, and min aid may give ?10,000 to ?75,000 per year if one meets the rules.

The teaching methodology (again depends on the faculty). Resources provided for the course, academical support for the weaker students from the faculty with some personal touch and quizzes a d frequent class tests for improvement of subject.
Other resources like labs with advanced tech and the library with a wider range of collection which updates every month. And the technical teams in vit which also unlock your inventor passion and helps in improving skills in the field you want to be
Fully flexible credit system, a type of program where we have the flexibility of choosing our own courses in the particular programme where we can pick what we want to study and design our own time table.

Dislikes

The commerciality in every aspect in vit. Sometimes if we mess up anything the fee layoff is too high and the behaviour of the basic staff sometimes really pisses out

Generally the fee structure is categorised into 5 types. Category 1 fees is around 1,25,000 per anum and hostel fees depends on what hostel and mess you've opted for. For category two students with hostel is totally around some 3,35,000 and for category 3 it ranges from 4,05,000 to some 4,20,000. For 4th category people it ranges from 4,30,000 to 4,50,000

FFCS(fully flexible credit system):The student can choose number of credits to complete,timings,teachers they want for every semester.This course selection begins before the semester starts,we will have to frame our own timetable

So basically there are 5 categories in toltal and no they are not seperated by caste but with the rank from the VITEEE entrance exam conducted every year by VIT Category - 1 The tution fees per year is Rs.195000 Category - 2 The tution fees per year is Rs.307000 Category - 3 The tutuion fees per year is Rs.405000 Category - 4 The tutuion fees per year is Rs.448000 Category - 5 The tutuion fees per year is Rs.493000 For the first year alone there will an additional caution deposit refundable of amount of Rs.3000 As far as scholarships,city topper students from goverment schools will get free admission and their branch choice, so basically the 12th topper from each district in Tamilnadu a female and a male student can get free education this program is called STARS. After first year each branch topper will recieve Rs.12000 from the university as a appreciation for their result. As far as ranks concerned the CSE core will have the highest demand amoung the other branches,all the 5 categories will get fulled below rank of 4000, next CSE specializations will have the next demand,then comes IT ,then ECE branches,then Biotech,then mechanical and civil,so if you want to get a CSE seat in vellore campus you will have to perform really well in the VITEEE examination.
