SRIHER Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) FAQs
Ques. Can I join Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) at SRIHER immediately after GNM, or do I need work experience?
Ans. As per SRIHER's 2026-27 prospectus, after completing GNM and obtaining the registration certificate from the State Nursing Council, a candidate may be permitted to join the Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) course without work experience. If the registration certificate is not yet available, the original evidence of registration (receipt or authenticated document from the State Nursing Council) will be accepted in lieu of the certificate.
Ques. Is there a written entrance exam for Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) at SRIHER?
Ans. No. Unlike most other programs at SRIHER, the Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) program is admitted through a personal interview only. There is no written entrance examination. The interview is conducted at the SRIHER campus in Porur, Chennai, on 8th and 9th June 2026. Selection is based on interview performance and merit.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc. (Nursing) and Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing)?
Ans. B.Sc. (Nursing) is a 4-year undergraduate program for students who have completed 10+2 with science subjects and have no prior nursing qualification. Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) is a 2-year program specifically for GNM-qualified registered nurses who wish to upgrade their diploma to a degree. The Post Basic program builds on the clinical experience and knowledge already gained during GNM training.
Ques. What career benefits does a Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) degree offer over a GNM diploma?
Ans. A Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) degree offers several significant career advantages over a GNM diploma: eligibility for higher pay scales in government and private hospitals, access to supervisory and senior nursing roles (Head Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Nursing Educator), eligibility to apply for M.Sc. Nursing programs, eligibility for government nursing positions that require a B.Sc. qualification (AIIMS, ESIC, Railways, Armed Forces), and improved prospects for international nursing positions.
