SIMATS B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) and B.Com General at SIMATS?
Ans. B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) is a 3-year specialised programme focused on company law, secretarial practices, auditing, taxation, and corporate governance. It is specifically designed to help students pursue the CS (Company Secretary) professional qualification from ICSI. B.Com General is a broader 4-year programme covering general commerce subjects. Students aspiring to become Company Secretaries or Compliance Officers should opt for the Corporate Secretaryship specialisation.
Ques. Does completing B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) at SIMATS make me a Company Secretary?
Ans. No, the B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) degree alone does not make you a Company Secretary. To become a CS, you must separately clear the ICSI (Institute of Company Secretaries of India) examinations (Foundation, Executive, and Professional levels). However, this degree provides strong foundational knowledge aligned with the CS curriculum, making it significantly easier to clear the ICSI exams alongside or after the degree.
Ques. Is there a mandatory internship in this programme?
Ans. Yes, a 6-month internship and project is mandatory as part of the B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) curriculum at SIMATS. This provides hands-on exposure in secretarial practices, auditing, and corporate environments, which is also a requirement for the CS professional qualification from ICSI.
Ques. What are the career options after B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) from SIMATS?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers as Company Secretary, Compliance Officer, GST and Tax Consultant, Auditor, Financial Analyst, Corporate Governance Consultant, Legal Officer, and Logistics Officer. Many students also go on to pursue the CS professional qualification from ICSI, CA from ICAI, or MBA for further career advancement.
