Course Details

The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) and the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) are jointly offering a new MSc program in data science and management. The program will commence in July 2023. The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar and the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar together provide the full-time, residential Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the "Data Science and Management" curriculum. Each academic year has two semesters that begin in August or September. The majority of businesses and industries nowadays largely rely on conclusions that may be drawn from the enormous amount of data that is readily accessible, which has caused a sharp increase in demand for highly qualified data scientists.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for Personal Interviews (PI). Based on the score obtained from the PI, previous academic performances, gender diversity, and work experience, a composite score will be created for the selection of candidates for the program. The weightage for the parameters is given below:

For final-year candidates, their incomplete qualifying degree score would be taken in lieu of their final graduation score if the final graduation score is pending. Incomplete or intermediate graduate scores are considered only if the candidate's final graduation score is pending.
The admission to the program is contingent on the successful completion of the qualifying degree, and the proof for the same has to be submitted latest by 05-June-2023; failing the same would result in the termination of the participant from the program.

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Total Intake

The program is expected to accept 60 students in its first year (taking into account all reservation requirements as outlined in the IIM Act 2017 by the Government of India).

IIT Ropar MSc Data Science and Management Course Curriculum

A variety of courses from the fields of management, statistics, data analytics, algorithms and data structures, and information systems are included in the curriculum, which was co-developed by IIM Amritsar and IIT Ropar.
Four semesters will be used to spread out the two-year program's delivery. The students will be housed at each institution for a year (first year at IIT Ropar and second year at IIM Amritsar), with co-teaching by faculty from both host institutes.
During the break between the second and third semesters, students will have the option to work on a project with a company or with academic professors from reputable institutions in India or overseas through the Summer Live Project (SLP). The students themselves must complete the summer live project.
In addition to the coursework, the fourth semester will also include the Final Capstone Project. One faculty member from IIM Amritsar and one faculty member from IIT Ropar will serve as the project's directors. To finish the program, the project must be completed successfully.
