Admission to the B.Tech program in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Ropar is through a highly competitive process. Applicants must first qualify in the JEE Mains, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and secure a top rank to be eligible for JEE Advanced. Typically, only the top 2.5 lakh students from JEE Mains advance to this stage. The JEE Advanced exam is known for its difficulty and serves as the sole admission criterion, with rankings determining college placement.
For the Computer Science and Engineering branch, the cutoff rank for the general category hovers around AIR 2000. For those availing reservations, like OBC, SC, or ST, cutoffs are generally relaxed, making it more accessible for reserved categories to secure admission. Successful candidates are counseled through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), managing the seat allotment process based on ranks, category, and seat availability. Admission forms, as well as timelines, for JEE Mains and Advanced, are available on NTA and JEE Advanced official websites, respectively.
It's essential for applicants to diligently follow these timelines and adhere to the entry requirements, including maintaining a minimum of 75% in Class 12 for general category students. The admissions process is streamlined, with opportunities for document verification and fee submissions primarily conducted online. Rejected students can still explore other IITs based on their rank and preferences during JoSAA counseling.
