IIST Trivandrum Faculty

The faculty at the college is distinguished, with most holding PhDs, primarily from prestigious institutions like IISc, IITs, and renowned universities abroad. There are over 80 faculty members for roughly 600 students, resulting in an exceptional faculty-to-student ratio of approximately 1:7 to 1:12, one of the best in India. Many faculty members have backgrounds as scientists at ISRO, providing expertise in space technology. While faculty members are highly knowledgeable and approachable, some lack teaching skills, leading to less engaging classes.

Despite this, they offer significant support for research projects and encourage innovative thinking, with collaborations with institutions like Caltech. The course structure promotes holistic development, with a focus on space-related subjects. Exams are challenging, with around 70% passing on the first attempt, and additional support is available for struggling students. Faculty members are accessible for doubt clarification and are committed to student success.
